Dont know what to do about it, but you might think about getting a job with RGIS Inventory Service.

We are not only paid to count merchandise in stores all day but you're expected to count objects in groups- not adding them in your head- but keying them into a portible computer in groups and letting the machine do the adding. You see a row of bottles of soda pop -key them in in groups of three- and the machine tells you there are 12 in the row. And you go to the next row.

Might as well get paid for your obsessive compulsion!

I think I just had a mental orgasm.

Omg!

Is that good, or bad?

That is awesome!! !!
I got paid once to sort hundreds of hard copy payment orders according to PO number and date. The greatest job on earth! :D

I can't make my brain stop but I've noticed that it becomes a lot more comfortable when I play Solitaire.

Oh.
Cool!

Well- we and our competitors hire all of the time- the peak inventory season (january to early march) when they hire alot of people is kinda wrapping up but they have work and turnover in staff and hire some people kinda all of the time.

Part time and full time.

RGIS is nationwide so there is probably an office in your town if you wanna apply.

You may have seen people in a Sears or a Walmart with red shirts, black pants, and little computers on their belts counting stuff-thats us. It might be your calling!

Aw, yeah, it's totally cool.

I read signs at the station today and I wondered why I do it.

It's just so... odd.

I used to count cars obsessively and I still count train wagons.

I mostly close my eyes when it gets too much. It's not that bad most of the time. Only when I'm nervous. But then everything is hell.

I'm still trying to find it or rather... I think about it.

I get upset when I look for jobs.

The sad thing is... not only for people with Asperger's, but in general... that this kind of work usually is done by machines. Machines replacing real people. Less jobs. More money for the boss.

Sad but true. Lucky for me though, at that time (about 12 years ago) computers weren't that popular in the company I was working for, so most of that kind of work was still done by people (me, mostly).
In the company I work at now I haven't held a hard copy of anything in my hands yet. Everything is in the computer.. meh.

Sorry, watching TV/Movies makes my brain focus completely on what's happening on the screen (if I like what I'm watching). I do love watching movies, but it makes it almost impossible to fall asleep if the TV is on (since my brain spends all its energy on making sense of what I'm hearing). But it's also really hard for me to fall asleep without anything there, since then my brain tends to run a hundred mph and wont let me sleep.

Only way for me to fall asleep is to stay up until I'm exhausted. Back in High School I was on the swim team and physical exhaustion worked pretty well.

The only way I can get my brain to stop is to listen to brown, pink or white noise.

I was just talking about this with my wife yesterday as I was trying to co-relate myself to my son's Aspie traits... I asked my wife if she is the same because I am wondering if everyone else brain is constantly active as to expound everything they perceive around them...

I told my wife I stepped out yesterday and felt the wind blew which led me to think..."Where does the AIR comes from?"..."Why does it stay only within the limits of the earth's atmosphere?"...why it does not go out to the outer space and fill the whole universe with air?....Stuffs like these makes me realize...WHAT THE HELL AM I THINKING?

and to realize about will not make me stop...it will continue until I will be urged to research...which I just did today...

Well my wife told me...she's not like that...she don't over think about just anything...unless it has something to do with her life...

So yeah...How do we stop our brain?

I thought trying to sleep helps...BUT it don't...until our brain get really tired and the night is really late...then I will fall asleep... :D

I truly envy people (NT's) whose brains do not work like this. I'm always asking myself almost childlike questions of who, what, when, why, and how. Drives me bonkers.

Has anyone ever TRIED yoga? or tai chi? Prayer and meditation?

These things are disciplines and require self-motivation for benefit but none of them are hard.

I've always had trouble quieting my mind. I also count things. I use a mix of yoga and tai chi to find my center and calm my spirit.

I've found these can be very effective. Now, cultivating the discipline to do it daily is another issue...

The only thing that makes my mind stop is in an activity where all my attention is centred on something that does not and cannot involve thinking. Therefore reading and movies are out for me, because I'm still thinking while I am doing them. That leaves physical activity. Sadly, when I run, I can still think, so that's out.

Things that work for me are the following:

Riding my motorbike
On a bike, you cannot afford to let you mind wonder and zone out or think of other things the way you can driving a car. You need your complete attention while doing this.

Riding a horse
Same as above, you cannot afford to have your attention on other things while doing this. Getting thrown off a horse because you didn't notice a wasp nearby which can sting the horse and set it off is not fun (and is avoidable by avoiding the wasp). Ditto with uneven ground rather than wasps.

Surfing
Same as above. If you lose your attention you risk being smashed by a wave and / or ending up on rocks or reef and it's not overtly fun.

Dancing
When dancing, if you think about it, you screw it up. It has to be instinctual, energy and muscle trained movements. Brain activity will make you look like you have a stick up your a** and also make you more likely to screw it up by trying to control the movement or (or trip, if you're like me).

I simply cannot recommend you do what I do to make your brain stop....

But that's the only interesting things about life.

I guess a lot of physicists and astronomers are on the spectrum. Well, those who are actual scientists, not teachers. Because they are hungry to know more. I know it's the stereotype, but... modern Physics is a very ambitious project and it needs people who ask substantial questions. Only those will make an effort because they see a point in what they are doing.

It is exhausting to be unable to not think about how the world works, but what would be the alternative? Not think about why things are the way they are?

That is why I do not like organized religion. It tells you what to believe and you can't believe anything else.

Only a few things I have found, none but one really good:
High Fevers, shut-downs, getting ----faced drunk, severe blows to my head.
Shutdowns are not under my control, but at least I can get some silence when I "Reboot". High fever caused extreme depersonalization. Yikes!
Getting to sleep & staying that way is the only way for me. And its not even easy. Usually need a PM or Benadryl aid these days.
I've tried meditation, but couldn't maintain it for very long..

Sincerely,
Matthew
