Americans tend to put too much on their plates at home, too. Not all, of course, but obesity is an epidemic here and I would hasten to say that most people probably do not even recognize what a "serving" of any given kind of food is. I would say that among the people I know (college educated, middle class folk) probably only half know what constitutes a healthy, balanced diet of appropriate portions, and of the half that do, probably only a half make any regular attempt to follow it.
