This worries my 10yr old, she plays with her large collection of teddies, and hides in her room talking to them, and dressing them up, and they do things like have parties, and play games, she does this for hours. She will come and tell me what happened, and what the teddies said, but is aware its considered childish by other kids and hides this away.
I sat down and had a long talk with her and explained its a secret but that being an adult is less fun than being a kid and so she should play with her teddies as long as she can while she enjoys it and not worry about what other people think. I also told her that one reason she enjoys playing with her teddies is that she has a better imagination than those other kids that don't play with teddies, so she was pretty happy with that.

Plenty of time to become a boring old adult, take your time about it.

I do wanna say that I've never seen both teens and adults play toys (just like they would during elementary school). Most of them are into sports, video games and other social activities. I automatically stopped playing action figures at age 10 and became more enthusiastic about sports and video games, and this wasn't due to peer pressure. But as for you, you can continue to play those dinosaur toys if you'd like.

If you're still interest in dinosaurs, then maybe you can major in biology and learn about animal biology, wildlife and evolution in college. You can also talk about dinosaurs for your senior project.

By the way, in what ways were you 2 years behind the other people?

I am 25 almost 26 and still sleep with my stuffed animal. Mainly because at night when I can't sleep I get really stressed so having something to hug comforts me. Weird I know but oh well.

P.S. Does this mean Radar O'Reilly was an aspie. Young adult who still sleeps with at teddy and has an uncanny sense of hearing and almost no social skills... sounds aspie to me! lol

When I was 19 I still played with army men toys, liked running around like a 8 year old. Didn't get grown up stuff or humor.
Heck, I just bought a electronic experimenting set that sold as a toy.. and I'm 48.... I still injoy playing school age type play with a co-worker that also has a lot of HFA traits and he is 23.

I am very glad to be like this.. I don't every want to be a - Grown UP - where life holds no magic.

Dinosaurs are and were awsome when they roamed the earth, I stopped playing with toy dinosaurs at 14 when most my toys I replaced with are in pixelated format in the form of video games I loved playing Jurassic park Lost world for Playstation when it came out in 1997 ahh the feeling I got when i got to the levels of playing T-Rex. If there is a video game out there where you can play I dinosaur I am so on it. If it even involves a pixalated character not in the form of a dinosaur but as a dragon or of similar stature I will play that constantly. My current addiction and obsession is playing an MMORPG known as Everquest because of the fact the Iksar are playable Iksar are a lizard people. My main character is a level 95 iksar Shadowknight.

I'm 24 and I carry around plush squirrels, sometimes taking them to class with me. I just got one that's a Hansa brand plush squirrel. Its fur is so soft and it looks so realistic. I named him Almond.

Ok, no problem.

Remember that developement in parts of the brain is not linear.

For example, when she was 12 her reading age was 20. Now she am 20 and she emotional age is still 12. Some things fall behind, some things speed up. It is possible to catch up years in a few months, it is also possible to never progress beyond a certain point in certain areas.

I still play with my toy animals like little kid, and I still like doing 'lets pretend' games. It's ok, but people think it's weird, so best do it in your bedroom if you care about people think,

There's nothing wrong with that, just keep it to yourself. If you want to play with toy dinosaurs, do it. It's not considered normal for a 17 year old to like them, but why should that stop you? Just keep it private and there's no problem. Telling people might get you made fun of, but that's their problem and not yours.

I think I was about 14 before I stopped playing with my little dolls. I had over 100 tiny bean dolls, plastic animals, etc, which I made up stories about. I only played with them in my room, so no-one knew, except my parents. Maybe it was a little old compared to my peers, but I don't think it was a concern. I wish I could still make up stories, so I could play with my daughter better. That's left up to my husband, who is 44 and has a head full of stories.

These days, people seem to want kids to grow up far too quickly. My daughter is 6 and her peers' parents say things like, 'My son is too old to want to dress up for World Book Day'. 8O My daughter is definitely not too old, in fact, I'm not too old, at 39.

So, basically, the only way that can affect you is if you care if people see you as normal or not. If you don't care, carry on. If you do, then you should stop playing with toys because people won't think you are normal.

It is very possible to be mature in other ways and still have child-like interests and enjoyment. I think it is a good thing.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I have a mega interest in dinosaurs. I have a large collection of figures, models and toys and I regularly take some out with me in public,. i treat them like my pets and talk to them, feed them etc. I don't have a problem with this, and if anyone else does - So what? For all I know they are just mindless props in my universe. The only thing that annoys me is how people in general can't accept this, even though I'm not harming anyone in any way.

I bet loads of people are more childish than they make out, but just keep it secret as they are ashamed of themselves and feel they need to put on an image.
