I am quite good at films/photos or when I am otherwise not involved in interaction/in a quiet place observing others because a major part of my difficulties with this stem from sensory processing dysfunction.

Best thing I've seen on this thread so far. Me too. Thing are completely different as an observer rather than a participant. Here's mine.

That could be a network delay issue. Do you normally have any issues with YouTube and similar videos?

Very rarely, actually, and none at all on the day that I took the tests.

When I tried to take the FQ quiz, when I pushed the "Get Results" button, it only cleared all the answers I gave and didn't give me a score.

(Chrome, linux)

Yeah I noticed that too... I assume it's an error caused by a very small sample size. i.e. only one male neurotypical has taken the test so far and he wasn't paying enough attention (or wasn't actually neurotypical)

Friendship Quotient

Test taken by you on 14 April 2012: your score was: 62.0 out of 140

The average score for males with ASD: 57.0 out of 140
The average score for females with ASD: 36.6 out of 140
The average score for males with suspected ASD: 39.9 out of 140
The average score for females with suspected ASD: 51.4 out of 140
The average score for female neurotypicals: 60.0 out of 140

I don't think this test is accurate, I don't have any friends offline, just one intimate friend who visits me a few times a year. It wouldn't let me say anything about online friends. It depends which online friends I meet up with in real life and depends on my sensory issues regarding how comfortable I feel. It also depends on what they mean by stranger, the guy who conducted my initial interview was a stranger but I felt comfortable talking to him and if I met a stranger wearing a Doctor Who t-shirt then I would feel more comfortable chatting than just a random person in the street.

If you just get a reload it means that my code didn't see the data returned from your browser. I just tried Chrome on Linux and of course it worked fine for me. I'll look through the code and see if I can figure out why this is only happening to some users. Not being able to replicate the fault here makes it rather more difficult to find. AARGH I hate web programming!

Does the RAADS test work?

What the hell?

Anomalies like this will crop up in the beginning due to the very small sample sizes. Most of the tests have been 'seeded' with results taken from the original research but in the beginning the results will still fluctuate quite wildly.

Getting a decent number of NT results is going to be a problem. From a research viewpoint the results are going to have a pretty major bias towards the autistic spectrum. This has to be a fairly long term project and I think it will be at least 6 months before the data set really stabilizes.

Ellingtonia wrote:
I don't know what to say; I've got a proper AS diagnosis and everything, but apparently I'm better at this than the average NT.

I'm glad you're not the only one. I was very surprised by how well I did on the film and audio tests, especially considering how badly I did in the 'reading the mind in the eyes' test.

This test is not just about how many friends you have. It is also about how you feel about having friends. Also, like any other self-reported test it relies on the accuracy of your answers and the depth of your self-knowledge as well as the quality of the questions. You can't rely on any one questionnaire. You have to look at the results from a number of tests, preferably from a number of different researchers before coming to any conclusions. This is why I am still hunting for more tests.

I ran the site through the W3C validation service and picked up a whole load of html errors. Could anyone who has had problems with the FQ page try again and see if it now works.

Ritvo Test: Total score Language Social relatedness Sensory/motor Circumscribed interests
182.0 16.0 98.0 35.0 33.0

The FQ test: your score was: 60.0 out of 140

Mind in films: You scored 15.0 out of 22 in 3.7 seconds

Face/Voice task: You scored 85.0% in 4.8 seconds. Faces: 86.0% Voices: 84.0%

I still can't emulate those emotions with my voice nor my face properly. And reacting to them in real-time, let alone recognize them with all the surroundings of a normal environment is not as easy for me as this test (where I used logical deduction, it's multiple choice....).

Ritvo Test: Total score Language Social relatedness Sensory/motor Circumscribed interests
184.0 17.0 85.0 42.0 40.0

FQ: your score was: 45.0 out of 140

Reading the mind in films: You scored 14.0 out of 22 in 17.3 seconds

Faces/Voices: You scored 85.0% in 14.1 seconds. Faces: 82.0% Voices: 88.0%

Now if only I could read people like this in real life...though I did use the process of elimination and guesswork for a majority of the last two tests. I'm not sure if it still counts in that case.

Could someone post the current mean values for test results? I don't want to re-do any of the tests to get this information (unfortunately I'm not registered user).

And what do you think about being native English speaker? How does it affect results? Is it important to understand everything that is said in those movies, or tone of voice and facial expressions are more important factors?

I'm still having issues with the FQ. I've not tried any of the others.
