Another thing I have to say about my doing things for my looks is that I don't leave the house very often and the more I have to do to go out the less likely I am to leave.

Sometimes I just throw on clothes and leave without showering or doing anything else but brush my long hair. If I had to do everything a woman was supposed to do with all the hair styling and hair removal and make-up it would take me so long that by the time I was done I'd either be tired or change my mind about going out. It takes me a long time to do things.

I'd really like to take pains with my appearance but it really isn't practical for my station in life. There's no need to spend money on makeup and nice clothes when hardly anybody sees me all day.

I get more exercise than most people I know... because it makes my body work more effectively. I don't do it for how it (could) makes me look.

My sense of style is a bit different. I tend to over-dress when I go out and under-dress at home. I try to make sure my clothes match and even make sure I match my jewelry to my outfit.

I rarely wear makeup because it is itchy and hard to get off. I won't leave the house unshaven or unwashed. I am over-weight and have acne. I am trying to work on the weight but I have given up on the acne, because I have no cash for a dermatologist. Yes, I have tried OTC stuff and the prescriptions my GP tried were too strong for my sensitive skin. I use conditioner to keep my hair soft and less frizzy. I brush it constantly, but it is too much effort to blow-dry it even tho it looks much nicer when I do.

Might sound like an odd hint but I heard from a friend that plain oatmeal apparently works miracles on unhappy but sensitive skin. Just take a handful, soak it in warm water, wash your face with it and rinse it off. It's antimicrobial, moisturising, soothing and toning - and a bit messy - or so I have heard. It might not work for everyone but she had a problem similar to yours with too sensitive skin but rather severe acne and she was perfectly happy with that. It's also pretty cheap and might be just the thing - as long as you're not allergic, that is. :)

To the females here who don't like makeup, why don't you?
I don't because
- I don't like the feeling and
- I feel it's a kind of cheating. Like, your face with makeup is not really your face. That's like wearing a mask.

It makes my face feel dirty, I hate things on my face and often wash it several times a day.
I tried nail polish once or twice, to help get me to stop biting my fingers, but got too paranoid that my snails would absorb it through their skin. It didn't stop me from biting my fingers anyway.

I actually tried an oatmeal mask at a party once. It worked well. I just never decided to try it again. It was a *mess*. How long do you soak the oatmeal?

I'd have to ask her, I have to admit I never tried because I haven't really had any real problems for a while.
But the way she described it, I think she just held her hand full with oatmeal under the tap and squished it a bit. Just so it gets soft and doesn't scratch. It's more like a washing routine and less like a facial mask.

I have next to no muscles but the beginnings of a belly paunch...

I dont have a very good self view of my image, for the longest time as a kid I would not look in the mirror, way back pretty much as I can remember but now while I still do not like to, I can.

And I have always had a fear of my own legs, it is weird I know but for some reason it is there when I was age 3-8 until I "got over it" though sometimes I still remeber...

Nowadays I do not really care so much, I never have much but I still see people staring on occasion...especially when I open my mouth and a ridiculously slow droning voice comes out of it...

Slippery elm poultices will help alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis.

I have a healthy body image and accept my looks as they are, so I do care about my looks. :)

Yes, I care about hygiene and appearance, but only because it is the sensible thing to do. I definitely don't follow fashion, and think that dressing to impress others is annoyingly shallow.

I'll never wear torn or dirty clothes in public, however. Appearing respectable is important, but dressing to impress is not in my value system.

Yes I do and I am very self conscious and OCD about certain things. However I adhere to my own dress code and style but I give care to it. Not to sound narcissistic but one of my obsessions is my appearance, I'm not full of myself but the contrary. I get really upset if my hair doesn't look the way I want etc etc.

^^^^I am exactly the same way. I used to not care at all until I was about 17. My parents thought it would be a good idea if I went to beauty school. I felt really out of place and didn't/couldn't talk to anyone there, but I certainly learned how to fix my hair, make-up etc. I am artistically inclined, so I took to it quite well and obsessively. What few people realize is make-up/hair/fashion (as far as I see it, not so much what is *trendy*) is not necessarily just a frivolity, but an actual art.

I care about my body a lot! I shower everyday, I don't wear anything twice before I wash it, I do my hair everyday, and it's rare for me to not leave the house without makeup. I'll go out of my comfort zone for clothes if it means I'll look good in the eyes of other people. And I care so much about my appearance that I'm very uncomfortable with my body, even around the people who have tried to help me gain confidence in myself.

I care but at the same time I don't care. I shower every day or every other day. I brush my teeth twice a day and all that hygienic stuff.

As far as dressing goes, I spend my entire 4 years of high school pretending to be someone I'm not and wasn't all along. I wanted to be accepted. That backfired. Being a "girly-girl" only resulted in arguments with my mom, and a whole lot of tears. So as of this month I am back to being a MallGoth. It's my true style and identity. I feel comfortable in that style.

This is why I'm going to get a job with a uniform...
