Have you had any psychiatric help over the last 9 years? It doesn't sound like you have.

I've known teams of CPNs (UK Community Psychiatric Nurses) in Sussex, West Dorset, Surrey and Hampshire as various members of my family have cracked over the years and ended up on Mental Health Wards in hospitals for stays. The CPNs to me are more important that the Drs.
They are lovely people who can help you on an ongoing basis from home, over many weeks to treat your anxiety and try to sort some of the problems that are causing it.
Tell your Dr you think you need that kind of help.

I'm not sure how informed about autism CPN teams will be, so make sure any professional you deal with understands they need to go crib up quickly. If you get some help, I'd try and tell them as much as possible, they are very trustworthy. Also here are some other organisations, ring them and talk to them, or email them if you are happier with that:

If you have trouble telling the Dr everything tomorrow, and you dont have a printer. email the surgery.

People can help, you aren't alone and you will get through this stronger and happier.
Mental health and anxiety problems effect most of us in some way. My whole family have had breakdowns, paranoias, organics brain problems, depressions. And we are a fairly normal bunch :-)
After support they are happier and stronger, I promise.

I forgot to say........

Its going to be sunny at the weekend. After the doctors, go for a fabulous walk in the park, along a beach, up a hill. Into some stunning woodlands, along a glorious canal.

Go feed the ducks, or the squirrels. Turn over a stone, and find a fabulous frog. Tell the frog all your troubles. Get busy gardening or some outdoor project.

Go to the zoo. Do it on your own if thats what you like. Or go for a walk with a rambler group.

Exercise and green therapy have always helped me enormously.

It will be ok, just give that head a break.

Regarding the event which happened online, I have received bullying online and it shakes me up pretty bad.

That people really can be this way.

I wish you all the best on your doctor's appointment tomorrow. :D And it sounds like those community psychiatric nurses are also pretty helpful people.

Please view it as a process of learning which combination of medication and/or methods work best for you. For example, you might find that yoga doesn't really do much for you, which would be fine. Or, you might find that a brief daily session helps a goodly amount, which of course is even better. And medication should work at least medium for anxiety and hopefully more.

Hi qsPyro ...just thinking of you and wondering how your appointment went today. It'd be great if you felt able to let us know.

Why won't you take the medication? It may just help - that's why it's been prescribed after all.

I understand being scared to take medication - been there for sure. But your reasons may be different to mine so I don't want to assume anything. However, you went to the doctor to get help and he has offered you medication. The psychiatric referral may take some time and you don't want to be feeling like this until then. You should probably try it and see how it goes.

What did you hope the doctor would do?

Have a good rest.

Also, the suggestions Aardvark and Pastafarian made are good - they will take effort to do for sure, and you may have to 'force' yourself but they may allow you a little respite from your thoughts. I speak from experience.

I realise that the medicine can seem pretty scary with all the listed side effects, but the best way to handle this is to give yourself a one week dead-line. Try it for a week, if you can't tolerate the side effects, or don't like how you feel then it will be safe to stop at any time.

If you are tolerating it, and remain on it for over a week, but you will then need to talk to your doctor to discuss how you can stop if you decide against it at a later date.

Jason.

If you do one thing during the day, try to research the medicine online, see what others say about it and make your own decision whether to take it or not.

I think a good long low-stimuli rest is fine.

Then, maybe consider starting with half a dose of the medication? (which makes sense because we on the spectrum are often/sometimes more sensitive to medication)

I think thats a good suggestion, try half of meds.
I know it might not feel like this to you, but I sort of think if you try the meds, what have you got to lose?

Some people do really well, others they dont suit, but you wont know that til you try.

Maybe try them for a week and pay attention to if they seem to be helping at all (they might take a little while).

Meds often help people are cautious about them, it means you aren't just taking them willy nilly on Drs order, you are checking for yourself if they help, maybe building up half dose, and you might respond well.
They will provide a badly needed break from the anxiety whilst you get help to sort the causes of it.
Thats all they are, for some folk, they give them some help.

How are you doing?
