I was fascinated by rocks and pebbles. I used to go to construction sites when I was little, and sat on their big heaps of broken rocks for as long as I could. It was pure bliss. When I was a teenager we moved into a new apartment. Guess what? The rooftop was covered with a layer of pebbles, probably for heat retention or drainage. I never figured out. Anyway the roof was locked, but one of the window panes was missing and it allowed a fairly skinny person to squeeze through. I spent a lot of time on that rooftop, fingering pebbles and daydreamed. Nobody else ever come up and see me playing with rocks. It was my haven.
I don't know if that's weird or not for a little girl. Anyway I went to university and studied earth science and gemmology. If they didn't lock the lab doors I'd have spent a lot more time there with the rock samples. The obsession never died. Rocks are my friends.
