It's our monotone voices, lack of expression on our faces, the subject matter we're interested in and the fact we go on and on about it that means we are usually seen as the opposite of charismatic.

Charismatic people are often self-serving con merchants though so we're a far safer bet.

Let all the idiots be impressed with charisma I say.

The antonym of AS is charisma. This is why so many of us aspies dream with positions where we can influence people - we're starved for this basic human need.

It used to be my life dream too. But I can't even get anyone interested in hearing a comment I make at work lunch, let alone lead a nation or persuade an audience.

And I agree, aspies are more quickly rejected the more primitive the NT is. So appealling to the masses is an AS antonym too.

Charisma, by definition, is natural.

Totally agree!

I have fantasies of ruling the world one day too lol

A lot of people would have a LOT to fear if I ever did!

I've often thought there's a positive side to being rejected by the more primitive NTs - it means we are kept safe from their lifestyles as they usually don't want to know us.

We're not cool enough to deal in drugs, commit armed robbery or murder people

I'm really cut up about that!

I think charm and charisma should come naturally and people should be themselves. Well it can help to take speech therapy to help a person use more inflection in their voice, but to a degree a person should be themselves. I do joke around and can be funny, but have to be comfortable around people to be like this and often at work or in a large gathering I mainly quiet. It is something to work towards and still I do believe that people should be able to themselves or at least not have to force themselves to be very uncomfortable to be something they are not. I do feel sometimes I want to go a little bit out of my comfort zone to grow and then if I do this and succeed or have fun then I feel good about it. I do believe in taking "baby steps" towards most changes.

Of course going out of my comfort zone for me can mean trying a new hobby or driving a new route to work as well as taking a speech class or speaking up more at work or when out with friends.

It appears one of my many talents is making jokes that go over people's heads.

~Ahem~ The original poster of this thread asked "what is one thing that you think sucks about being an ASpie." I made the horrible mistake of mentioning the "C" word and now everyone wants to post their opinions regarding it.

What's so bad about that?

This is a discussion board and the lack of charisma thing is evidently a major thing for a lot of people with Aspergers (whether they realise it or not in a lot of cases! lol)

(I make no claim for myself not being a charisma-free zone btw)

It's just not logical to want to stop people discussing what they want to discuss

I'd be thrilled if people wanted to discuss an aspect of a topic I'd brought up

Yes, but in case you haven't noticed, the two of us have hijacked this thread.

No, other people have just stopped posting - that's up to them and no reason for me to stop posting if there's something relevant to respond to.

I think you're being exceedingly rude actually - no one was posting anything on this thread until I posted some stuff, which you evidently didn't like hence your sarky posts.

(Do you mean "snarky"?)

No sarky - shortened term meaning sarcasm in the UK

It hasn't gone off track if no one else is posting anything

Do you rule the forum or something?
