I go on a figure skating forum. I'm like one of the few guys who post there, and it's all women and can be a weird dynamic at times. I've only gotten personally attacked there once, but I don't have too many posts (about 50?) and it's a slow forum and it's sort of exclusive (moderators have to approve you being a member.)

I go on CelicaSupra.com under the same name as here. It's a forum about Toyota Celica Supras. Slower forum full of mostly old car guys.

Probably the most downright nice forum I've ever been on is Badger and Blade. I made like 5 posts there and a guy sent me like a $20 razor and like $30 worth of shaving gear at $10 shipping, for free. It's a forum about shaving and razors. It has other forums, which I don't go on much, I mostly lurk there, but it's a nice place to be, I think. Maybe it's because 99.99% of the users are men, and usually older men who are fairly intelligent (enough to get into a niche hobby like double edge safety razors.) But any forum where you make 5 posts and people send you free things is a cool forum in my book. I guess the main discussion is razors, and by nature razors are all personal and subjective and pretty much you can only make 99% of statements about them with "in my opinion" so they're hard to "argue" over.

Let's see... Bodybuilding.com is pretty much a s**thole. But, if you want the exact OPPOSITE of this forum, then go there. I made like 20 posts at BB.com and it's not really for me.

Those are the only forums I post on at all. I've gotten a lot more "forum shy" and more shy about online socializing in general. As for being on here, I just got "stuck" here I guess. For better or worse, it became an online home to me, and I'd not had a good online home for quite a long time prior. I'm not gonna give some lecture about how Wrongplanet is the best or anything, sometimes I like taking a bit of a break from here, too. I don't think this forum is really *bad* as there's certainly worse places on the internet, it's not the most awesome forum ever either, but, I've settled here I guess.

So the only forum I know of in particular that I'd recommend trying out is Badger and Blade, and buy some razors!

Well, WP is the biggest site for Aspies that I know of.

The few other general ASD forums that I have seen online were much smaller, had much less activity, and were narrower because the numbers were fewer. Personally, I think I am more likely to find a thread here that interests me than on a smaller website. Also, I have rarely even noticed a moderator in the time that I have posted here and also haven't noticed any cliques. At least, not in the threads that I post on.

I often visit forums about other special interests besides ASD (e.g. IT, sensory processing problems) and I also visit various ASD-related blogs where a small group of people tend to discuss a particular blogger's posts. I usually go to those sites to read the articles, though, rather than interact with the people posting comments.

I occasionally post on Facebook, although I find social websites like FB mostly boring. I want to pursue special interests, not engage in social chit chat. Also, I don't necessarily want to announce to every FB acquaintance of mine that I have AS. Some of them might not understand AS the way that I do (and presumably a lot of other people here do) - as an important and interesting difference, rather than a horrible and tragic defect.

The only problem I see with your request is: if a good alternative to WP exists, then maybe the people who know about it don't post here at all, because the other site meets their needs.

Well all the other forums I frequent are women-dominated so they generally stay supportive and polite. All I can suggest is find forums related to your interests and hobbies. I know talking about those make me happy. There are some forums that are naturally not going to be peaceful places, though because of people's firm opinions. Say, politics, parenting or nutrition forums. Avoid those places if you just want to relax instead of getting worked up.

I never found this site to be exactly warm or supportive, but that's OK. Being nice and supportive aren't exactly what aspies are famous for. :)

*BTW in some of the forums I post asking about alternative forums would have broken the rules and got you banned. :) The world is not fair and private forums especially don't have to make it so. The internet is so great with so many forums, sites and blogs talking about everything you can imagine.

If you are having trouble posting in a moderated board I encourage you to try to use intensitysquared which is known for being an unmoderated aspie board.

That said heres some word of advice: dont start trying to create some drama about whatever issue you find with this board. They have had plenty of discussions about it in the past and they have become quite tired of discussions regarding this website unless they are somewhat necesary(its okay to post a topic about your problems but you are expected to try to move on from wrongplanet and join their own board instead of complaining about this one on regular basis)

The mods are pretty good considering all the bored destructive puppies that float by[like pieces of flotsam] in a sea of painful childhoods

again_with_this has a chip on his shoulder because he received a warning for attacking another member. If you don't want the mods on your back follow the site rules. Simple as that.
