Because people, at times want peace. They understand that. So they steer away when you say you want peace.

I wouldn't have thought of that and wondered why.....I've not necessarily been asking to be left alone!

People frequently equate "wanting peace" with "wanting to be alone."

Even NT's feel "social pressure" sometimes. Sometimes, they have a great need to be left alone. That's why you're given respect when you want "peace."

This is, at least partially, what is meant by "theory of mind": They identify with others who want peace; that's why they know what to do when a person wants peace.

Start talking crazy while itching yer butt and then sniff your finger.
That should do it.

In similar situations to these I sometimes use the phrase "I'm sorry but it's just not a good time for me to talk right now" and then walk away. Sometimes works - sometimes not so much.

Good luck :)

I think this is really good. Also the "i hope you dont think I'm rude, but I need to come down here for some time to be by myself - nothing to do with you at all."

Most people just say "cool story bro" when they really do not care about what someone speaking to them has to say. In your case, however, I would recommend trying to find out what causes the woman to seek conversation from you. Maybe she has some kind of underlying issue or just needs a friend. Writing her off a just another jabber-jaw may not be the appropriate course of action.

Most people say that when they want to be rude about the fact they don't care about the topic.

I've talked to this woman before, many times. She's very stuck up and has made comments about "people who live over there" (there's one side of the park which is very posh and the other side, where I live, which she was referring to without knowing I live there), she just talks about crufts and how her dog comes from winners. She's just not a pleasant person to talk to. I don't expect people to not talk to me, I just like to avoid it because it makes me incredibly anxious.

If that woman tried to talk to me again, and I really didn't want to talk to her, and especially if I really didn't care what she thought, I might say:

"You know how you once commented about 'people who live over there'? Well, I happen to be one of them. And I don't appreciate what you said."

Hmmm, that is a problem. I would say to an elderly woman something like, "my, you have nice big titties, can I squeeze them?". It's not an insult, but it will make her avoid you in the future, plus it's a bit of a complement.
