You're right, we're not the Illuminati. But I think it is an easy way for us to recognize each other. It's a lot easier than walking up to someone that you suspect has Asperger's and saying: "Hi, I have Asperger's and I think you do to, let's be friends!" Only to find out that they don't and embarrass yourself. Or to not approach them at all because you don't know and don't want to say anything.

I'd say also exactly that, because there is also many people there in the world on the spectrum that dont know about it.

They should get their chance to realize it by some hints or somehow you should tell them. This is not easy thing, because when you go through that process, it can either set you back or it can give you some relief.

I think there is some antenna in us that spots these things quite easily and subconsciously. When you them ask about symptoms you'll quite easy find out that.
Easier in those cases is then to use a symbol to make a quick check whether they know about it or not, without having to out yourself.

Apart from that this symbol gives also some common feelings as member of AS. Those feelings are a little in its nature questionable. That typical NT thing being proud of status things. These symbols and being AS you can be proud of, but you should always be aware of its status nature and what it means logically and how this can trick your feelings to be better than what you are...

So the most important purpose for me is related to be able to fast and easily recognize each other. And I am also proud of being on AS, as long as this relates to facts and not to fakes

As long as you cant directly connect the symbol directly to it, fine with me. And google doesnt search for such symbols:

http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=%E2%9C%BB+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Somebody that is interested should very well have the possibility to make a connection.
Being on AS is not a shame!

And such guys that would go for it to discriminate us arent usually that smart that they would get it. I mean who should sort of have the idea to search for "teardrop shaped asterisk" when he is searching to bully us? People arent usually that engaged that theyd try everything to find a spot where they could attack us. This is by far too complicated for simple minded stupidos.

EDIT:
To get it more accepted it should be communicated here a lot and that would mean it would be right on top of googles list. I dont really care

A very good idea. You could even start in a chat like this : ✻?
Which would mean like somebody on the spectrum around here?

Or many other purposes

EDIT; Just tried to figure out how you could make this sign easily accessible. Add-ons and stuff. ALTGR related stuff.

Thought this could be important to make its use much easier. Have seen some microsoft tools with which you can generate own keyboard layouts (e.g. your own plus some extra symbols accessible via ALTGR key)
For Ubuntu I found this

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=188761

Anybody that wants to work a little into this?

To make it easier one could also write
td* :-( aspie not happy today
or such

Number 1 now! But I wouldn't worry about that - who is going to google that, unless they already know about it?

I don't know of any easy way to enter it any Windows textbox, but in Word and Wordpad you can type
Code:
273B

and then press Alt+X

and the text "273B" will be replaced with "✻"

I got #1 for "tear shaped asterisk".

I think you would have to be pretty well-acquainted with this conversation to even Google teardrop-shaped asterisk, especially because the official name for the symbol is teardrop-spoked asterisk, which we do not even show up on the first page if you Google that. By the way, have you looked at unicode symbol 273D? It's almost identical to the symbol.

That's right, we won't. Ever.

We are not playing to win. The NTs are. Even if we could give up our strengths and go to the basest level of NTs in some areas (for example, abandoning our love of accuracy and adopting a threat-based concept of friendship), that would still not enable us to adopt their strengths, such as sensory integration, and we probably would not be able to memorize their constantly-changing culture that the NT communication is based on. So in that sense it is hopeless.

Hi guys, I'm not sure how the forum works, but would it be possible to "pin" this?

How about Aspire?

If we color all the letters the same except for the R, it would be easy for those who know what Aspie is to get the code.

It can be shown in a lot of ways as well. Even a homemade bracelet would work.

Hi Zodai.

It's a great idea, but the problem is that it is stuck to the English Language, which makes it not universal.

It won't work for someone who is French, Japanese, Italian, speaking Arabic or Hebrew, Georgian, Russian, etc..

As for the others prior, if you don't like it or don't want to use any symbol, don't use it. This is all about those who are open to this concept. No one is forcing you to do anything.

You see, I'm pretty confident that if you speak to a thousand of us, you could have a thousand different ideas. So, instead of just looking at random other ideas, which will get us running in circles forever, I'm asking more along the lines of "This seems pretty do-able. Will this work?"

I went through every one out there before, and few have as many positives as this does, and as few negatives.

So tell me if this could work for you, and if so, could we start looking to pass the word that this is the new thing?

It has to start somewhere.

Well; in my opinion the ease of representing the symbol is important - we probably won't use tattoos because the are probably many people without the resources ( And they would bring hell on some of our sensory issues )

Language barriers aren't the end all though; I'm just as glad having the Japanese kanji for unique; but the issue is how difficult it would be for someone to represent that on their person. Same goes for the Asterisk in my opinion.

It needs to be readily available; recognizable to those within, but vague or common to those outside.

Although; it also does need to be recognizable to us Aspies - something our heightened senses would likely notice.

Hell; outside of Wrongplanet; even the term "Aspie" in wildly unknown from what I've seen. With the DMV changes; it's likely it will be discreet enough; but those who know about the Aspie term will likely make the connection.

That said; spreading it to those outside WP will probably be necessary.

Maybe we could start the trend online? Possibly a specific phrase or something; at least until we get things set up?

ASPIrE to greatness! Or something like that.

The only thing I could think of was an eye with a tiny globe as the pupil representing a different way of looking at the world.

Tip: If you want to make a symbol mean something you have to use. If you really like it paste it into your signature here and on other web sites or something.

Yeah, and the Wrong Planet does have a shop site (just an idea....). AS symbol T-Shirts? Why not.
