Ahogaday linked a study awhile ago that claimed that, while autism was present in both males and females, testosterone "aggravates" the symptoms.

Obviously, if that's true, then higher levels of testosterone = more severe symptoms. Also, as others have pointed out, men are missing an entire leg of a chromosome, and there are more steps involved in creating males in the womb; therefore, there are more opportunities for things to go awry.

This is one of the reasons I don't complain overmuch about having a period or the possibility of getting pregnant. The male body has a glut of potential problems which makes me grateful for female robustness.

Furthermore, women can get away with being passive, shy, clutzy, and bad at driving, and no one gives a hoot. Our society's expectations for men are just higher (and unreasonable) in some areas, so deficiencies in these areas stand out more.

No we can't.........

I agree with XFileGeek, we don't have it easier and besides, each gender has problems. I'm expected to be chatty but I hate small talk, expected to be ladylike and empathic, this list of social expectations could go on and on. My classmate joked once that I'm some kind of serial killer because he argued "the quiet ones are the ones to look out for". Thanks classmate :P

I had people assume I was some 'psychopath' because I was quiet.....yes quiet with no real friends and female and people thought that about me at school, maybe some still do who knows.

It's not a male problem. Female social norms (ie the shyness assumption) make AS slightly easier to hide.
