How does one determine if they do? I am only myself, I have no idea how perception is for others.

In the synesthesia battery I scored as follow:

Grapheme Color Picker Test: 1.02
Weekday Color Picker Test: 0.36
Month Color Picker Test: 0.6
Speed-Congruency Test: 88.57%

"In this battery, a score below 1.0 is ranked as synesthetic. Non-synethetes asked to use memory or free association typically score in the range of a 2.0. An accuracy percentage of right answers in the range of 85-100 typically indicates synesthetic association between the graphemes and colors. Those below 85% typically rule out synesthesia."

Shayna- to me, your name is kind of a dark rose-pink. Pretty. :)

Ticker-tapers, I have to know- did this help at all in spelling contests? Haha. I would just think if you saw the word pop up when the teacher announced it, you'd have an internal cheat-sheet.

Also- I would love to know those that taste words what my name "tastes" like to you. Shayna pronounced Shay-na. Or what color it is? Haha. I don't mean to be annoying but synethesia fascinates me and I am curious. Even though I know it presents differently in each person. Anyways....

Tastes like chicken.

I'm joking, I can't taste names.

Totally. It isn't cheating if you have it within you, but it has kinda felt that way more than once. Like arm wrestling a baby.

I also, evidently, categorize and file everything in a somewhat efficient manner so that facts come to me rather quickly - I wasn't formally educated much so most of what I've retained is useless but I might do better than most on Jeopardy.

Wow! Thanks for answering my questions. As someone who screwed up spelling tests by messing up just a few letters, that still sounds unfair, but really cool too!

I don't have synesthesia, but I do have some oddly efficient way of storing information as well. I have come to call it "If I read it I know it" this doesn't necessarily mean that I understand it- but reading it just once will put it somewhere in my mind that is able to be quoted from later so long as I don't try. If I force it, it lags ridiculously, but if it just comes up the most random things are recited like I'd just read it 10 minutes ago- even though it's been years. It's pretty handy.

I have grapheme-color synesthsia, as an associator. I blogged my colors recently. It won't let me post the link tho. :( I'm too new.

I've been meaning to blog my story about as a kid, my mom and I compared colors, and my dad thought we were crazy. Later, I found the book, "The Man Who Tasted Shapes", which was written when they defined only "projectors" as having real synesthesia. A few years ago when I stumbled upon the phrase "grapheme-color" I got very excited that science had finally caught up to me. :)

They do know there is a link between autism and synesthsia, but they're not sure what yet. I also notice that I have other "senses" or tangential concepts that are linked in my mind. Like some thoughts are linked to locations. And stories I write have colors that combine a lot of elements, including the color of the title and main character's names, as well as the setting color, the emotional tone, and who knows what else.

I recently had two meltdowns where an image became stamped in my head that seemed to have nothing to do with the event. An eclipsed sun in one, and a sign reading PERSI in red with lightbulbs all over it in the other. I could almost see it, floating over someone's head. In the second instance, after explaining it to someone, my personal subconscious meaning of PERSI fell out and I started laughing. It seems I'm making puns even in the worst of times. ;)

I have number/colour and month/colour synesthesia. As well, I have it for people in my life/colour, though I don't know anyone else who has this. I also create spontaneous images in my head when I hear music...but I don't know if other people do this.

As a kid, I had other sorts of synesthesia that faded...which explains why I was very distracted by the world around me. Flavour/colour was one: when I saw a certian colour, I would instantly be reminded of something with a specific flavour: this association was unconcious and some colours produced more "flavour" than others: for example: a certain shade of purple could be associated with a specific flavour of juice.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Shayna is like crushed ice mixed with something that reminds me of vanilla or pina colada or almonds. I do not have a specific flavor I can name, but this happens to me frequently.

Verdandi- See, that's what really gets me jealous over not being synesthetic, though I know that there's so many different ways it presents, getting to taste tastes that don't have a direct "this tastes like..." or see colors that aren't exactly "colors" is just way cool in my opinion. Though, I know it's kind of your life and you are more-or-less used to it.

Didn't you have spelling tests though where the teacher would say "Through. I went through the door without looking to my left. Through" and then you had to spell it?

Your name is also white, but not the same white as Asperger which has a sour and bitter taste.

I am used to people thinking it's cool and I don't mind. I didn't think it was unusual until the last couple of years.

My first response is "I have no idea, you've never told me." My second response is rascal77s:

Rascal is kind of chocolatey.

Phewwww, I was worried you would tell me it tastes like something else that's brown. Thanks Verdandi :)
