I was banned from a Creationist forum, but then again I was debunking their myths (like an absence of fossils, Stephen Jay Gould not believing in evolution, irreducible complexity) so that was probably fair enough.

Generally I get appointed moderator on forums. I have posted over 1000 times on five forums and I moderate on two of them. Then I'm ban proof.

Attention seeking behaviour or ADHD of some people often leads to trolling behaviour on internet forums. They are often lonely people who desperately want to interact with people but they lack the social skills to interact in a positive way or they simply troll forums for some fun and to alleviate boredom.

Why does anyone go on forums then? lonely people who want to interact with others? Cyber bullies are trolls. Some people get banned for just being annoying. Like in the real world, don't talk too much about sex, drugs, and politics and you'll be fine.

I was banned from several forums back when I was still naive and didn't have a clue about the hidden rules of groups. Not different from real life - mostly, mentioning that which everyone is busy pretending they don't see.

I was once banned from a forum for parental abuse survivors, for saying that it's not true that all parents in the world did the best they could, some parents just didn't want to make any efforts, let alone their best efforts. I was disconnected and when everyone complained (because they liked me very much) they were told that I had left, not been banned. I was able to read but not to post, so I wasn't able to expose the lie. The members expressed sadness and disappointment that I had left without saying good-bye. They never knew the truth. As an aspie, I didn't have a clue of the taboos that I shouldn't mention, I didn't even know that you're supposed to be very careful at first till you discover which the given group's taboos / pink elephants are.

I would have just created a new account and then post it and then leave knowing they would ban you anyway. Maybe they would have just deleted the post before everyone could see it. But word spreads if one of them saw it.

i dont get banned, except for once, but did ask a question in a forum like "how many people have tablets?" or something like that. and people reacted very angrily, "Do you want us to make a survey for you?" and "Do you want us to find out exactly where and how many times they use them? is there anything else we can do for you?"
sometimes i write things in forums and people get made and i feel like an idiot, and i also feel guilty for hurting people's feeling, but i only got banned once from yahoo questions and answers when this b***h wrote she flushed a live fish down the toilet and took her sister's cat and left him on the street far away and told her sister the cat ran away, and then that horrible creature asked should she get a cat herself? i wrote to her people like her should be tortured to death and burn in hell, and i'd kil her if she did this to my cat, and never to have kids because she'll abuse them. i got banned then, but opening a new account on yaho answers is the easiest thing in the world. anyway, i'm not sorry and i meant every word.
sometimes, on forums, people dont understand what i ask because i've got problems with self expression, or i dont understand the answers, but that doesnt happen often.
we dont know how our posts will make other people feel, that's the thing...

The only time I was banned was when a moderator unilaterally deemed that presenting facts with references was somehow injurious to people who would rather believe ideas that have no basis in reality.

I have been banned from other forums mostly because they didn't like what I believed in or had completely different viewpoints about something though I was nice. A Christian forum didn't like my message. Bunch of Christian fundies ran that forum. Then there was the Objectum Sexual crowd I found desturbing once I started thinking about being professionally diagnosed for Autism and than Aspergers just recently. Knew I didn't fit in this forum and I was so happy that I was banned. The administrator refused to remove my pictures so I had Yahoo to removed them for me and that is how I got banned. It doesn't take much at all to get banned from some forums and I try to look at it as being better off without them.

But, a person here on Wrong Planet really have to do something bad to get banned. And I notice many times the mods just give people time outs and are brought back.

That may have to do with the facts that (1) MOST of the members here are reasonable, and (2) the mods here usually do not wield the banhammer without a just cause.

Using racial, sexual, or gender-based slurs against other members are sure ways to get banned on WP. Using the "R-Word" to slam another member's intelligence is another.

I've never been banned from a forum. I still participate in some USENET forums - but they are totally unmoderated anyway so it is impossible to be banned. Interesting that some of them survive despite the free for all, simply due to peer pressure - if someone behaves like a jerk the other members are quick to tell them so. There are occasional nasty flame wars but they tend to burn out quite quickly.

I strongly dislike when snarky people post things so that their wording is done purposely to provoke, yet a mod will ignore it as it's not an outright attack. These people also like to accuse others and formulate their own opinions of other posters, that of which they post all over.

In a way thats like stealth attacking people. Obviously since it's not outright, the mod does nothing.
If someone is that manipulative that they can twist their words and word things sooo well in order to make someone mad, then they are obviously having problems. Likely with the poster they are trying to antagonize.

So i don't like it when people do stealth sneaky things. If i have ever offended someone, i'd rather they pm me or ask for clarification as i try not to ever offend individuals.
However if someone offends i might just have to get myself banned lol

I've been banned before for no reason other than bullies blaming me and accusing me of things. This was on schizophrenia.com and I posted a few things but then the bullies (and the moderators of all people) started bullying me and thought that I was was faking my illness. They gave me information about Factitious Disorder. For one thing I DO NOT FAKE OR LIE. Then it went downhill from there. They started doing "research" on how bad of a person I am. Then they put my address on the site. Then they went further and started making fun of my art and speaking. They gave my real name as well. This is a full case of cyber bullying. I should have done something about it. SO they banned ME from the site because it was the bleep hole moderators that were on the bullying team. It was most people on the site. Only a few supporters who believed me. Then the bullying spread on other sites, including this one (and others). It made me suicidal. I have also been bullied throughout my life.

I have never been banned, but I often make a fool of myself and leave voluntarily.
I have a difficult time restraining myself from saying something after I've read another thing that spikes a lot of anger and usually end up insulting people (intentionally).

Though in my defense, people can be complete idiots on the internet, someone should tell them what they are.

It's is the first forum that I've ever posted on. I'd like to find other good forums for anything. Any good ones?

I havent been banned from forums although I have had warnings at times because I lose my temper I usually just leave after that. Never been to them ever since. If I want to just openly be a jerk I would go to 4chan.
