How strict the rules are is immaterial. What is more important is whether the rules are explicit and written down or subtle and unwritten, as well as whether one generally agrees with them. I think that many people with AS would prefer to live in a society that has a few defined laws that they are happy to comply with but breaking them results in being hanged in public rather than a society that has hundreds of subtle unwritten social codes that result in lack of respect and petty bullying if they are broken.

Except during those eras when even a mole was a sign you had made a pact with Satan. Do not kid yourself, you would have the steak waiting for you. Or perhaps been eaten by wolves after your family abandoned you as "Afflicted".
Hmm, aside from Native Americans & a few others, there is no historical period that has ever been kind to any sort of Deviation. During the 60s most Aspies would probably be seen as Square! 8) I still love the Rock & Roll from this time, though. So much superior to the crap (derivative crap, at that) I here on Pop stations these days. But I digress..

Sincerely,
Matthew

I do think it is the best era so far to be on the spectrum. For one obvious reason: technology advances. It makes a huge difference, I cant imagine my life without the internet where I can find all the information I want, relate to others that are different, find online communities, etc. And I also feel that being different is slowly becoming more and more socially acceptable.

worst time - Middle ages. Having autism during the inquisition would have attracted the attention of the inquisitors and their torture devices...

best time - 100 yrs from now

Medieval times, definately medieval times!
I am very short sighted, so I know I would be either working as an artist, wood carver, leather worker, gold/silver smith or writing the bible at some monastery.
Back then, they would have appreciated my abilities way more than today.

This is probably why I am strongly drawn to everything that relates to medieval times.

Or you would be burning at a stake.

There was a lot of cruelty going on during Medieval times Konstans. The fate of people who where perceived as different could be quite grim.

I have worked many years and noone have ever noticied that I'm different. I am very convinced that my skills and eye for details would be appreciated in medieval times.
Btw. You should be extremly mad to be burned in medieval times. (I have read much about the dark ages!)

That is a myth. Moles did not cause anyone to be burned or executed. At least not by a court. (Perhaps if you got in fight with a stupid person hating moles)
In medieval times, people had as much moles as we do today, even kings and people among artistocraty had them. This is documented in countless of paintings and description.

I would think the middle ages would have been a good time to have been an Aspie. Joining a monastic order was seen as a normal thing to do.

That's a good point. It's still possible today.

I think that most western orders are Catholic, but I read about one that is pretty much open to just about any religion.
