Good catch! I don't know why I brain-farted on that one and included "Other".

Maybe it is because "Other" is a more efficient option than creating a list of dozens of gender identities just to keep everyone happy.

Yeah, I could go along with "Male / Female / Other", but "Male / Female" is what we have, and it is extremely unlikely to change.

That's it :D (and the option of not showing gender at all too, I guess, but we had all agreed on that one already)

So... unless I'm missing something, I guess we're done here . It has been a pleasure

What about someone with a Y-deletion or Y-translocation? If you have only part of a Y chromosome, does that count?

Biological gender isn't as simple as male and female, either.

Well, if it is important to you for everyone to know your gender, just put it in your sig line!

My suggestion was male, female, other, and undisclosed. I doubt anyone wants a list of dozens of gender identities to keep everyone happy.

These conversations come up regularly. I don't think anything is likely to change either, but sometimes the resistance to the idea comes across as rather odd to me, like people are threatened by the idea.

The only real resistance to the idea at the moment is Alex's seeming reluctance to make changes in this website.

But as long as everyone has a signature line, et cetera...

I'd be happy with male/female/other/undisclosed but that would be far better than it is now. As it is now does force people to select things they are uncomfortable with.

(Personally I'd go with undisclosed)

The least we should do is include non-binary, agender, genderqueer, and bigender. Anything else I would have to research a little further but as a genderqueer person I'm all over this ! !

I think there should most certainly be other options. First, a best friend of mine is non-gender binary whom I love enough to actually keep a picture of us on my phone. Second, I have a cousin who is a transgender girl and also on the spectrum. I would both doing her a giant insult if I ever otherized people who reject the gender on their birth certificate. Remember that we on the spectrum are a very diverse bunch! I always believe in acting with more welcoming spirit and openmindedness than the people who tormented and bullied me throughout my life for my differences. If I don't stand up for others, I can't condemn the people who have before and continue hurt me. Let people of all genders come.

And looking at the fact that earlier today we got our first answer in 3 years, I seriously suggest a revote.

IT should be a different option entirely.

I'd use an option if it was available. I hope there's an option soon.

Classifying the population into just male and female only, is just as frustrating to you as what I feel when Aspies classify the population into Aspies and NTs only.
