I'm OK with being autistic, but I feel that life would be much easier for me if I was NT. On the other hand, I feel that having autism has made me stronger because it has taught me to overcome my unique adversities.

Actually, I forgot to add that today there is more widespread awareness of autism than when many of us were children. When we were growingup our differences would have been noticed but not understood for what they were, or maybe the blame would have been placed on us for choosing to be loners, or difficult and requiring correction or discipline. A LOT of people just didn't get it, and chose to judge autistics. They look pretty ignorant today.

The hope is that children today and those of the future will find a NT society that will have at least been educated about autism issues. That won't likely make the special hurdles that people on the spectrum face any less significant, but it may mean that the issues will be more widely recognized and understood by others, than they have been.

Odd question. Would I rather be me or would I rather be some other person who notionally has problems quite different from my own?

I'm fine with who I am.

Dfinetly NT. I would not have to live a big lie all the time, there could be a real me, my mom wouldn't put me through all the bs to try and "better me" because I would already be better. My father wouldn't see me as creepy until I changed my personality to literally become him, which isn't as bad as it seems.

Definitely NT - I was often a really embarrassing older sister to my siblings, nobody understood "why" I was different, and I didn't have the best relationship with them as we got older.

The question"If you Could, Would You Rather be NT or Autistic?" is living-proof that WrongPlanet.net is a forum where rarely discussed; usually on account of topics both NTs and people of the Autism Spectrum are uncomfortable discussing.

To best answer this question, being at the absolute highest-end of the Autism Specturm (the term 'High-Functioning Aspergers' can apply) has been considered; that is some type of computer/Internet engineer with good social skills would be valuable business wise, as well as valuable "spiritually" for lack of a better word. The "best of both worlds so to speak."

Once more, I would be seen as an NT who would empathize with (and succesfully mentor) people with Aspergers.

I've had a couple of brilliant technical relatives (who probably had 'high-functioning Aspergers') who were reasonably successful long before home-computers, Internet and the understanding of the Autism Spectrum. If my techicallly inclined relatives could "do it all over again" with today's tools, and understanding of Aspergers, they might have had "best of both worlds so to speak!"

My answer will probably make some people mad, but I don't know. I have never been normal and wouldn't understand it if I was because I'm so used to being autistic. If being normal was easier than being autistic I might want to be normal. If being autistic is easier to me than being normal, I wouldn't want to change. I have no good answer for this.

I'll stay aspie, I look at most NTs and how they act and wonder why I i'm suppost to want to be like that, why thats suppost to be better. Where autism gives it also takes somewhere else so it becomes very much a wash in the end, i'm just different, no better no worse. I get to see life in a way most people never will and thats a good thing I value. Being autistic is a harder life becouse NTs chose to make it that way, thats not a good enough reason to change and abandon who I am.
I very much agree with this. I also think we should stop fixating on how we're different from others and start focusing on the commonalities we share with the rest of humanity. I think that will make NTs more accepting and less focused on trying to normalize us.

If I could keep my intelligence, then yes, I rather be NT.

I would rather be an NT with special interests. I want to be able to socialize and have a normal life, but I still want to have my special interests because they are so much fun.
