I checked out a genetics book from the library recently, and there isn't a lot of information about what the link is between autism and mitochondrial disease. It says that children with mitochondrial disease may have an autism spectrum disorder, may show some signs and symptoms of an autism spectrum disorder, or may not have an autism spectrum disorder. That isn't really that helpful, and I think there needs to be a lot of research focused into this area :D . Maybe it could yield some results!

How are you doing? I haven't been round here in a little while.

I was vaccinated and so we're my children. I have 2 kids with autism but I myself do too? I am 46 so there wasn't much of a danger back then according to the numbers. My son did start having seizures after his 2nd set of vaccinations at 4 months and we held off untill he was 4 years of age for the rest of them. I think ours is familial rather than vaccs.

I believe mine is genetic/familial as well. Many people in my family are autistic themselves, and even in cases where there isn't a family history, there could still be de novo mutation as if the cause is genetic. Seizures are common after receiving vaccinations, and don't necessarily mean anything unless there is clear regression and possibly the presence of other neurological/health symptoms, like hypotonia or autonomic dysfunction and fatigue. That to me can be labeled as autism, as autism is a descriptive rather than a causative diagnosis, but the underlying mechanism *may* be a mitochondrial disease.

I do have a mitochondrial disease and ehlers danlos so mine is obviously genetic :?

Mitochondria dysfunction and ASD linked? Really???

It's speculated that Meg and Charles Wallace from A Wrinkle in Time likely have Asperger's, even though the book was written in 1962, about 32 years before Asperger's became something diagnosable. In the sequel, A Wind in the Door, which was published in 1973, Meg and others have to go within within Charles Wallace in order to save his mitochondria.

When was this study about the link between mitochondrial disease and Autism published?

This particular one was published August 12 of 2015. That's really interesting about A Wrinkle in Time- I only ever read the first book so I had no clue they went to save Charles Wallace's mitochondria! That is so oddly coincidental!

My sister and I both got vaccinated on schedule and it didn't really affect us. If it did, my sister would be on the spectrum as well....so there. I just felt like adding those two words at the end.

i was vaccinated.

and so was my sister
and my cousins
and my niece
and my friends.
and most people alive today.

Vaccines do not cause autism.

I was vaccinated, and I think the experience permanently damaged my trust in my parents. They could have been shooting saline and produced the same withdrawal often reported by parents.

I need to re-read that one, I don't think I've read it since 6th grade.
