I agree about Simon and Garfunkel's "I Am A Rock," and "Sounds of Silence."

Gad, so many to choose from
"The Bitterest Pill" - Jam
Script for a Jester's Tear - Marillion...;)
Smiths, some Morrisey (don't swing that way, but does strike a response)
"Creep" - Radiohead
early Cult ("Always Wrong" - boy does that sound familiar..;)
could go on and on...;)

How about John Lennon's "The Fool on the Hill"

Day after day,
Alone on the hill,
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
But nobody wants to know him,
They can see that he's just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.

Well on the way head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices is talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
And he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.

And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do.
And he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.

woah ooh,
Round and round and round.

He never listens to them,
He knows that they're the fool
They don't like him,
The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning 'round.

Two songs I can relate to very much are "How Soon Is Now" and "Nowhere Man".

"How soon is now" really hits me hard. It's supposed to be about being gay, but I think it equally applies to being Aspie.

Shades of Me,

I like the Beatles too. They are my favorite group. Simon and Garfunkel is a close second.

There is only one song that I know of that deals with the issue of autism, and that is "Solitary Shell" by my favourite band, Dream Theater. It's a great song but it doesn't necessarilly describe typical autistic symptoms very accurately.

Anyone know of any other songs that deal with autism or aspergers?

I love Solitary Shell, your right, it doesn't describe typical symptoms too accurately but I can still relate to it.

By Dream Theater:

Quote:
[As I Am]

Don't
Tell me what's in
Tell me how to write
Don't tell me how to win
This fight
Isn't your life
It isn't your right
To take the only thing that's
Mine

Proven over time
It's over your head
Don't try to read between the
Lines
Are clearly defined
Never lose sight of
Something you believe in

Takin' in the view from the outside
Feeling like the underdog
Watching through the window I'm on the outside
Living like the underdog

I've been trying to justify you
In the end I will just defy you

To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fit your plan, Take me as I am

As I am

Still
Running uphill
Swimming against the current
I wish I weren't so
f****d
Feels like I'm stuck
Lost in a sea of mediocrity

''Slow down,
You're thinking too much
Where is your soul?''
You cannot touch
The way I
Play
Or tell me what to say
You're in the way
Of all that I believe in

Takin' in the view from the outside
Feeling like the underdog
Watching through the window I'm on the outside
Living like the underdog
I've been wasting my breath on you
Open minds will descend upon you

To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fit your plan, take me as I am

Am like the part that also C+Ped into signature-it reminds am of the need for understanding autists, autism awareness and the common spectrum wide hate against a cure.

Forgot to say,it isn't specifically about autism or aspergers, but it seems like it.

I remember, some years ago, hearing a country song about a man who had an autistic brother who would look at the dust particles in the sunbeams as a child and, upon reaching adulthood, eventually had to be institutionalized.

sounds like a lot of the songs here aren't actually about AS, but they are about subjects that people with AS feel very strongly about, such as social isolation, seeing the world differently or simply loneliness. NTs certainly can feel those things too, its just that those aren't things that naturally come with being NT, they definitely come with having AS. So we of course can all relate whereas less NTs can relate, and we certainly feel stronger about those things.

Gotta agree with Juggernaut there. Have a hard time believing John Lennon and a few others referenced here would have the faintest understanding of what AS is about. Someone here mentioned Dream Theater's "Solitary Shell" as a candidate. Take a look at the lyrics to "My Glass Prison" (which doesn't properly express itself as a written script), and consider that this - along with similar songs in their repertoire - might actually be written about AS.

Well, Tony Attwood believes that Lennon was definitely NOT an NT, if you get what I'm saying...
