I wouldn't consider myself gifted in any one area. I have a good memory and a strong vocabulary, which contributed to overall success in academics. I would say my strength is ordinary general knowledge.

Steve K's quoted paragraphs are great. I had a friend NT (a NLP practicionner) who could make neither heads nor tails from me. . . He could see that I had a hell of a memory, but could not get past that. he did not see that I remember that which I comprehend! he also said that I was a "distracter" that is: ask me A and soon I am off to B,C and D. But he never allowed me time to connect B,C, and D and relate all to A.

Oh well, even a nilper doesn't know from aspies!

I discovered a completely useless ability when revising for an exam. All of our lecture notes were in powerpoint format, with six squares to a page. When somebody asked me a question i could remember the page and the box and the position in the box, but often I couldn't remember what the information was!! I also remember birthdays of people I haven't seen for over ten years. What a gift :D .

People often think it odd that I remember so much from my childhood and in so much detail but I guess I just have a good episodic memory.

I'm certainly not gifted. :( In fact, I'd go as far as to say that I'm below average when it comes to doing all the things that I enjoy. Which I find curious to say the least. :? When it comes to things that I am slightly above average at (and I'd like to put a great deal of emphasis on the word 'slightly' there), I tend not to have much interest in such subjects.
I was reasonably good at the subjects I took at school, but hated every one of them.
As for IQ, I've taken a few tests before, personally I think the results of most online tests tend to be a little enthusiastic so to speak. I got either 122 or 132 on the last test I took, I forget which one exactly. So I think 122 is more likely. Every one else on the internet on other forums I've visited claim to have an IQ of 140-150. As I see it, that could mean one of two things, either posting on forums instantly turns the majority of people into geniuses, or it turns them into liars.

Anyway, in conclusion, no, not all are gifted.

Actually, most of those stating it seem to be in the 130-140 range. I only saw about a dozen claiming over 150. Others have stated from just under 100 to 130. Your reaction is one reason I don't often state mine. I might specify it is in the range, etc... Anyway, what is the point of bragging about that? Frankly, it isn't whether you are intelligent, etc... but whether you are up to the task. I like thinking I excel somewhere, and having something to shoot for, etc... but lying to others certainly won't improve that. BESIDES, people say things like.... "Im stupid but I'm smart?", and "I have a 140+ IQ but am bad in math" or "I have an IQ below 120 but am GREAT at math", etc...

Could I lie to you and say I have a 170 IQ(OK, mine IS lower than that), and say I could multiply 8 digit numbers by one another in my head(I can't), and compose a musical piece(I haven't even tried for over 20 years), but what good would that do? Besides, you might meet me TOMORROW for all I know!

If your knowledge is eclectic enough, or you happen across certain areas with me, you WILL see that everything I said about myself is TRUE.

Steve

Are you talking about this forum alone? Because I wasn't talking about this forum in particular, I'd expect most people here to be considerably more honest about these things than elsewhere. I was talking about all the other forums that have nothing to do with AS/Autism that I've posted on before. I've posted on quite a few and there always comes a time when an IQ thread pops up and you get 80% of people claiming to have an IQ of above 140.

I'm not gifted but I am apparently 'smarter than average' in everyone's eyes.

YEAH, I meant here! If 80% of the population had an IQ of 140, they would have to raise the average IQ to 122(So what is NOW 122 would be considered 100) just to allow the others to have an average IQ of 50!! !! Interestingly, that would make their adjusted IQ out to be 118! If ALL ASPIES had a 150 IQ, it would raise the average IQ of the population to less than 101!
