I believe the "we are superior" impression that we occasionally (either advertently or inadvertently) put out there arises from a lifetime of being made to feel like we are inferior. It is a defensive reaction to our overwhelming experiences of feeling defective, misunderstood, marginalized, ridiculed, exploited, etc.

ANYONE (autistic or not) will sometimes react this way in the face of perceived annihilation from another group of people (in our case, NTs) who constantly (intentionally or not) send the message that THEY are superior. When another person or group of people repeatedly drills into you that you are "abnormal", you feel like crap, and at some point you want to say "hey, I am NOT LESS than you!" On a bad day, however, when we've had enough and just need to feel we belong on this earth as much as the next guy, we might overstep our boundaries and say "Not only am I not less than you, maybe I'm better than you! So there!" Of course, we know this is not true, any more than the opposite is true.

We are just pissed and want the object of our anger to feel as bad as we do, which is a normal reaction for anyone.

Autism (especially Asperger's and HFA) is INVISIBLE, leading to a lack of accommodation and understanding, which is fundamentally wrong, and ticks us off, and so we are bound to react badly to this from time to time.

From what I know and read here on WP and elsewhere, we with autism do not really believe we are better than anyone else at all, BUT we are also sick and tired of having to fight so hard not to feel completely worthless.

Individual thought is what results in progress, not just following along with the masses because that is what a person is told to do.

The masses can be wrong in so many ways it is unbelievable and it takes someone with courage to stand up and say "excuse me, but you are misinformed/incorrect/mislead" in order to sew the seed so that change can blossom and develop.

Maybe it's not about superiority but the ability to think for oneself is a desirable trait to have in my mind.

Bumble, the OP asserted that, "We are not superior to NT'S!". I concur. I believe that, generally, Aspies are neither inferior nor superior to NTs. We are simply who we are. Human beings with different brain wiring. That brain wiring comes with certain advantages and disadvantages (having both desirable and undesirable traits).

We can try to compensate for those disadvantages, if we are so motivated. It simply takes more effort (and we may never fully turn that disadvantage into an advantage).

Seeing as we have developmental delay,
we are less than NTs in many ways.
Some of us may be more gifted in some areas
but this in no way means all of us are
and this leads
to the undeniable fact that all people exist on different levels,
some may have disabilities, some may be smart but even those without disabilities
can still be as disadvantaged as us.

I get it now, sorry. And no, I don't agree because this doesn't seem to me characteristic of Aspies, it is an unfortunate thing that characterizes many human groups, and not restricted to Aspies. I do though almost feel ashamed of the human species for this, as deciding a group is different, bad, and dangerous can lead to horrible actions being taken.

I'm sorry but im not going to be objective, i will talk about whats useful to me and the kind of strengths i find worthwhile.

I find aspies infinitely more valuable than nts.

And please dont tell me about the things that nts do that are so good, ive been there, got the t shirt, and i wasnt impressed. I've got a touch of adhd to me and if there was anything nts could do that i wanted to be able to do i would simply do it.

You might be ashamed of yourself but im not.

Ive always thought that it would help with peoples perspectives in places like wrong planet if they actually managed to succeed in the nt world briefly to show them that that the grass isnt so green on the other side. You know, give them a holiday in the nt world, show them just how crap it is so theyre a lot happier being who they are.

Well i cant help people to do something like that, but i can give you the benefit of my experience because it's something i can do, im one of the aspies that has managed gain the skills to blend in, and its not that great really. I found myself wishing to be around people with a little more depth. At the end of the day, i still managed to find myself on this website despite having no real problems around nts, what does that tell you about how good nts are?

I really wish i could impress upon some of the less experienced aspies just how much a lot of the things they wish for are worthless. You don't want to have social skills anyway, theyre not that great. I mean, social skills to do what? hang around with nts? Puleease. Mix with your own kind and you will do fine once you get past the main problem of us being spread out so much.

What do you refer as coming "naturally" for aspies?

I never get the 'superior-thing' anyway! I think it's a typical human way of thinking. Which i don't quite get. But hey, i don't get a lot of things so shoot me

Young adult autistics have a 28 times higher rate of planned, attempted, or completed suicides than NTs'. I think you would find that most of them were at least partially related to being treated badly and given a low self-esteem because of mistreatment by NT's. I can not think of one, not one suicide story where a young NT person attempted suicide because of the "meanie autistics." So, are NTs' superior in destroying innocent peoples' lives? You betcha!

I disagree with almost all of this.

It is very hard, if not impossible, to intellectually learn the things that come naturally to NTs. I "know" most of the rules of socialising, in theory, but that doesn't count for too much. It is nigh on totally impossible to "learn" how to cope with distressing noise or disgusting food or itchy labels, which NTs don't have the problems with that we do. Real-world organisation can be learned by many people, it requires a shift in thinking but you can definitely get better at it, though some autistic people will struggle with it their whole life.

Aspies do have the ability to learn things that a lot of NTs would find very boring. How useful the ability to memorise train timetables or Pokémon movesets really is, well, I'm not so sure. When it comes to things like science and maths, which Autistic supremacists love to play up, I think NTs are just as well suited at autistic people.

If you don't think NTs have depth, I might suggest you spend more time socialising with them. I appreciate that socialising is very exhausting, but from my experience even very boisterous, hedonistic NTs usually have very nuanced personalities.

It is not politically correct to believe that you are superior to someone else. With that logic we are all equal and Einstein is no smarter than anyone else. The fact is that autistics are geniuses and neurotypicals are too jealous to admit it. Rather than putting us in classes for the gifted and talented neurotypicals love to put us in special education ret*d schools. Neurotypicals want us to think that we are dumb. What nuerotypicals need to do is get out of our way otherwise these tyrants will hold us back forever. All we need to do is speak the truth but neurotypicals will use fear tactics to hold us back. But what do we have to lose? How many times do we have to let these tyrants fire us from good paying jobs before we realize that they have no right to take our unemployment benefits away from us if we protest.

You've missed a step in logic here: You are assuming that it is self-evident that being smarter makes a person superior.

No one is denying Einstein's very obvious talent for physics; nor are we claiming that he was somehow only average. Einstein's intelligence may make him better at solving physics problems, but does it make him superior to people who are not good at physics? No. He's not superior; he's just a better physicist.

Neurotypicals are better at social interaction; autistics have their splinter skills and special interests. Neither one of those spells superiority.
