It's pretty normal. I hate taking pictures of myself, I hate smiling for pictures, and I hate when others ask for a picture of me.

I'm male though, for what it's worth. I don't know if it's self esteem or what it is, I just don't like it.

For myself it isn't static photos that are a problem. It is video. I don't look unusual. It is my physical movements that are divergent from those of others, mostly. It is very very difficult for me to watch video of myself for this reason.

I don't think of it as being self conscious as normally I am not that way. Only in this specific situation does it irritate me.

Does anyone else do this?

It seems I can't stand being in any sort of photo and if I am, I always seem to find a reason as to why people can't see it.

I don't want to have any records of what I look like when I'm older because I simply hate my appearance so much, so pretty much only have selfies.

I always thought this was normal, but clearly it's not.

having seen your okcupid profile, you are beyond terrible looking. And even if you were, who cares what people think about you based on the outside of you? It's hard to realize this but it's the reality.

I feel a little weird saying my first sentence but I don't understand why you hate your appearance so much? or most normal looking aspies.

I don't like being in pictures either, but I don't hate the way I look. I just don't like being in pictures. It's a really strong dislike, and I'm not sure why... I don't mind the mirror at all.

Also totally hate my voice. When I have time I'll try and work on it, and my accent.

I hate my voice too. I recently recorded myself and was mad at it (mostly how much effort it took to not be monotone). When I'm with friends the tone of my voice changes (duh, more comfortable around them). In group pictures I'm terrible at them. Even with my weight loss and looking healthier I look like an outcast in most of them even the ones with my really good friends in them.

As far as physical appearance, like I said in the post above, most people believe it or not, at least the people who can be your friends, don't give a s**t. It only takes one as*hole though to think everyone thinks bad about your appearance.

I like having pictures taken when I have makeup on and my terrible skin problems are not showing. I smile whenever I feel like it. If I don't, then that's just part of me and I don't dislike myself or how I come across for the most part. A lot of my friends on the spectrum don't like their photos being taken so photo avoidance seems to be more common among people with ASD from my experience.

I do dislike my accent, though, it makes my voice sound too much like my mother's voice. However, I can't manage my time well enough to incorporate regular voice practice sessions to help me get rid of the accent. I should, though, the sooner the better...

I don't like having my photo taken unless I've got makeup on .

I agree I just want the pictures I'm fine with and most family photos of me are just a waste.

Yes - I'm the same. Never liked being photographed even as a small child.

Even when I've played in bands and we've had to do publicity shots I've always hidden behind wraparound shades, Lou Reed style, as I can't stand the gormless, awkward expression I always see in photos of myself (particularly ones where a flash has been used as my eyes are very sensitive to bright light). My general gait in photos always looks clumsy and forced too, so I avoid them whenever possible.

It's only in the last few years I've begun to see a correlation between hating photographa and having Asperger's though.
