Not a huge anime fan but I've liked a few series over the years. One thing I've noticed compared to American shows is greater diversity in types of characters and story lines. Anime is arguably more open minded and accepting. Perhaps more imaginative too. Just some of the factors that could tie in to why people enjoy it so much.

love anime but love manga more, it's the artwork that does it.
To say that people with autism/asperger's all like anime would be the same as saying they all american comics like marval etc. I don't like them because they are ugly, they talk too much and most of it is about fighting. A lot of anime is fighting too but it's cool when they do it, they look better.
They design the characters to have big eyes because they want them to look cute, babies have big eyes, round faces and few angles or lines. The japanese picked up on this and thought that if they drew like that then it would be more appealing. It appeals to certain people, the same as american comics.
FYI Japanese 'manga' was developed before 'comics' because they used it to tell stories about what happened in real life, they still do this today, the amount of magazines that are manga in design well outnumbers the amount of magazines in total we have in the UK. And the japanese ones aren't just aimed at the kids. There are ones for salary men, house wives, retired people, etc. and they have every subject going too.

I love anime, manga, and other forms of animation.

Anime has always been a safe haven for me. Its a way for me to escape the world around me. Its a place to laugh, cry, hope, and dream. Growing up I struggled socially and anime was my guide. The various themes exposed me to many social situations and the exaggerated emotions made things clear to me. I could take what I learned and apply it to real life.

I like cartoons as a category, my favourite being American Dad. If I had one anime that I could watch while being inexplicably stranded on a desert island, it would be Cowboy Bebop. That show had everything, including a great soundtrack.

For me, the biggest difference between Western cartoons and anime is that Western cartoons are either primarily comedic or aimed at children. Family Guy, Futurama, Daria, Boondocks, Bob's Burgers all have touching emotional moments, but the main appeal is the humour. Anime has a more diverse range of genres.

If there is a correlation between autism and liking cartoons, I'd say its because body language is a lot clearer because it's exaggerated.

I should also say that I once saw a Neon Evangelion film without any context or psychological preparation, and I'm scarred to this day.

My darkest secret....over the summer of 2013 I was briefly a Brony. That was a really odd part of my life, I just left high school and was about to head to college and I had no clue who I was or where I was going. My brother introduced it to me and for a while I was into it, even got really active on the MLP Forums. After a while though I learned of the vast number of cloppers, which I found horrifying. So that and being afraid of being chastised for liking it in college really killed the whole culture for me. I don't regret quitting it at all to this day, one of the few good choices I've made. I can understand people having odd fetishes, but that just took it to a whole new level that I just couldn't accept.

I've become a huge anime fan in the last 2 years, but I wouldn't really say it's because of ASD. I'd say it because I find high reliability with some of the characters, like having a really bad childhood and such. Western cartoons seem to shy away from lifes problems while Anime embraces it, even if shown in a ridiculous world, the characters are more human.

I'm not much of a fan, nor had it as an obsession of animes. I only have exposure (via searching) of it because some of my friends are huge fans. I admit, I rather like the artwork tho I'm more or less sure I'll be hopeless achieving it.

Simply because I barely watched any anime, or television in general. I never seen a manga before except on the internet. I do plan to see anime in a deeper level someday.

I don't mind otakus as long as they don't become weeaboos. Not the "OMG I LOVE THE VERY MENTION OF IT" type, but the "JAPAN IS THE MASTER RACE AND CAN DO NO WRONG" type.

I'm very picky about my anime, but I like many anime genres and anime for the most part.

I remember when I first saw anime. It was Pokemon. My oldest son was watching it and I couldn't figure out what was so different about it. It looked funny but I couldn't put my finger on it. I remember I asked what was up with it and my husband said it was a Japanese cartoon and that they used a different style.

I've just never cared for anime. It may be because it came out when I was grown and I was watching cartoons over half the day with my kids. Well, the tv was on and it was on Nickelodean for the most part but sometimes on some other channels like PBS and something else too. We had our regular stuff we watched every day but the anime stuff was on Saturday only. I remember we used to watch Rugrats, Little Bear, Hey Arnold, Rocketpower, Gullah Gullah Island, Shining Time Station, Reading Rainbow, Doug, Arthur, and several others. I did like a few of them, but I didn't watch them when the kids weren't there. I just never liked anime. I don't know why.

I go back to the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner days.

Maybe, SOME DAY, I'll watch anime.

I will admit that I watch anime and cartoons (yes, even old ones that your parents/grandparents/great grandparents watched). It gives my mind a break for a while, especially when I am stressed out after mentally working on something for a long time. Cowboy Bebop is a good anime series, as well as FLCL, Ghost in the Shell and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood in my opinion.

I'll honestly admit that I don't watch cartoons or anime very often, but I do enjoy them once in a while. I like animated sitcoms as well, and I used to watch them fairly often, but it's been a while since I've watched them on a regular basis.

They make sexually explicit cartoons? Really?
