I do not like weapons and I abhor violence, in spite of having violent thoughts myself when in the midst of my rages. I am a naturally fairly paranoid and nervous person and cannot deal with seeing any violence etc. It just makes me feel totally vulnerable and afraid. I remember my ex was carrying a mallet downstairs one day, early on in my time with him, and I got nervous as hell and kept well away. But here in the uk, owning weapons is not something I have come across really, though I am fairly sure we had one when I was younger. I have vague recollections of finding it in my parents bedroom and wondering why they had it and getting somewhat scared. IT always seems unreal to me when anyone I know in the USA has casually spoken of guns etc.

The US was founded by armed conflict. And people largely think that it will take armed conflict to maintain the status quo. That may very well be rubbish but you will have to change the way millions of people think to change that. Logic has very little to do with the situation.

I have never heard that slogan before.
It is rather ridiculous, but a lot of propaganda is.

Ah, if only Litigious were still with us. He'd set you straight. Quite the weapons fancier, he was.

Its not a common slogan or any propaganda. Its what I sum up as to peoples collective subconscious minds in the US think about civilian ownership of arms.
When people no longer feel that way they will stop arming themselves. You need to change their minds because arms productions and sales has not stopped and unlikely
to stop. My state of Texas its 2 guns per person state.

I'm here, and I'm willing to take up that banner.

The US was not founded by armed conflict, it was founded by courageous men who were willing to risk their lives for their ideals. Most people don't believe firearms will maintain the status quo, many don't like the status quo. They own firearms for myriad reasons, personal defence, hunting, fun, the enjoyment of owning and maintaining a well built machine, or simply because they're enjoying their natural right to do so. That's right, I said natural right, perhaps you're not familiar with them, they are the ones that can't be taken from you- unless you give them away, apparently you are willing to do so, fine, but I am not.

I couldn't care less how the US was founded.

Just wondering where the 'hate guns, hate freedom' nonsense came from.

Really? are you psychic? or a trained psychiatrist? How exactly are you evaluating other people's subconscious?

It's not nonsense. Firearms are an equalizer, a way for the weak to fight against the strong. If you hate guns, then you hate the ability to stand up for yourself, the ability to defend yourself aganst those who would lord over you.

Like the guy who died in Tianemen Square?
You think a pistol would have helped?

Those who 'lord it over' will continue to do so, from now until you die. No firearm will defend you.

'If you hate guns, then you hate the ability to stand up for yourself'
This is probably where we disagree.
The ability for me to defend myself is not contigent on my possesion of weaponry. Certainly not in most circumstances anyway. The contrapositive is also nonsensical.

No, but an armed resistance prior to then might have resulted in Tiananmen square never taking place.

People don't 'lord' anything over me, and a firearm will ensure that never happens.

You're quite right, in many cases a firearm isn't needed to defend one's self, but I'd rather be prepared in the eventuality that I will need to defend my life than be unprepared and prey to someone who doesn't play by the rules.
