Up until this year, I have gone out trick or treating. I kind of feel withdrawn from not going this year because I've gone my whole life. I am going to pass out candy and possibly watch my favorite kiddie halloween movies. XD I'm not very big on the horror stuff because of the horrible nightmares I get. ._.

I always love watching "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" :) I used to cover my room with hand-coloured paper pumpkins and write letters to the Great Pumpkin. I have yet to see him, but one of these days, if my paper pumpkin patch is sincere enough, I just might :D

Tell it to Polish authorities. We are a nation of mourners. Guess how our Independence Day looks like! Nah, no fireworks. We visit graves again, just graves of "unknown dead soldiers", not family members. And TV is full of documentaries about wars, stating how many people died for our country.
Having fun is apparently not allowed.

Does Polen have carnival?

Officially we do. But I don't see much parties. It's more like we are allowed to have fun but noone really bothers. Except clubs in huge cities but they use any reason to throw a party anyway because it's money for them.

Our New Year Eve looks kinda like an carnival since people dress up and go to parties but New Year Eve is not within the carnival time, right? Other than that we have the Fat Thursday a few weeks before Easter but that's not really celebrated - we just eat a lot of donuts at that day and that's it.

The most fun holidays in Poland I know are:
Valentine day - same as other countries I quess.
The Śmingus-Dyngus/Lany Poniedzialek/Sprinkle Monday (Easter Monday) - it is not save to get out at that day or even open your room because people are allowed to attack each other using water pistols whenever they have a chance. Children have a lot fun outside, especially if the day is warm enough but its early spring so it is usually too cold outside to get really wet (10-15*C). I remember one Śmingus-Dyngus that was 25*C when I was a child, it was really fun!
The Day of Children (1st of June) - they set up some contests for children, some fun places have free access for everyone, the outside swimming pool officially opens for summer time, children get gifts from family members etc.
The Andrzejki (30th of November) - people met up to see their future using many methods of future predictions. Noone believes it anymore but it is fun thing to do with a group of friends.
Christmas - no need for explanation.
New Year Eve - dress up parties and fireworks.

Oh, and we also have something called Carol. It occurs between Christmas and 6th of January. Groups of children dressed up kinda Halloween like but with limited set of costumes - Death, Devil, King, Star and an cow-like animal - visit houses to sing carols and beg for money.
Later the real church priest visits house to bless it.

I LOVE Charlie Brown specials. That one in particular is such a great classic.

Kiriae, I found your post about the holidays particularly funny. Smingus Dyngus day is not only hilarious but I also find it really funny to say. We might have to adopt that day.

Not really indeed, unless it is an very early Easter.

Ah, a quick donut before the fasting period begins ;)

Sounds like a lot of fun if it is warm enough :) .

I felt Halloween was always a time for witchcraft.

I was never a witch (warlock, whatever) but I've had a fascination in the occult. Honestly, it's dangerous stuff. Ouija boards are pretty frightening enough until spellcasting is done.

One of the things I did always want was for some magical creatures like Jarveys and Kappas to exist.

I love Halloween. I still look young enough to trick-or-treat, hee. :D

I've never been to a Halloween party and have no interest in going to one.

Halloween was always my favorite holiday. It was the one night of the year when I could be whatever I wanted to be. I miss the days when I could still trick-or-treat. (I finally stopped around age 15.) And we did it the right way: walking around the neighborhood, after dark, to other peoples' doors. None of this church or shopping mall stuff that's taking all the fun out of the holiday. When I was in first grade I trick-or-treated with my mom and brother through a blizzard. When the snow got too thick for us to walk in, she pulled us along in a sled. It was a surreal and magical night. :D

Halloween isn't really done here, not to the same extent it seems to be in the US. It's kinda pushed to the sidelines by Guy Fawkes night

(Interestingly, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving but we have Black Friday. Go figure)

OMG I LOVE HALLOWEEN!! What other day of the year *besides attending conventions* do you get to cosplay?!

Yeah, pretty much this. Sort of.

I generally love cosplay in general, so any excuse to get to do it is always a good thing.

But for Halloween, there's problems with it. My main cosplay is Bridget from Guilty Gear, and.... ahh, that outfit is not at all designed for warmth. And it gets bloody cold around here by that time of year (feh, it's already been cold for weeks now). I have a couple of other costumes I could use, but they're just as light and airy as that one.

The other problem is the weirdness factor. Those who dont understand cosplay (AKA, every person I've ever met in my area) would wonder why anyone that ISNT a little kid would be dressing up. And worse in that aspect, my costumes tend to make me look a bit like a girl. And I'm not exactly the manly sort to begin with. And I think most people tend to find me rather bizarre to begin with (including family), so.... yeah.

I love the idea of Halloween in that aspect, but I never actually DO it... and even if I did, it'd be too cold to do it outside. And just walking around in costume in my own house only feels stupid.

Halloween is fun! But unfortunately, we don't get a lot of trick or treaters. I want to really celebrate this year, not just watch scary movies.

I hate Halloween. I don't answer the door to anyone on that day. I had eggs thrown at my door once.

I don't have much concern one way or the other about Halloween. Living on a farm, we don't have trick-or-treating, and I don't decorate or anything. Usually my wife and I will put some kind of costumes on, and go to dinner, but that's about it. I guess it's fun to put on what would otherwise be inappropriate clothes, because nobody will think you're weird if you do that on Halloween  . I'm kind of a show-off with regard to my bodybuilding efforts, so Halloween is the perfect way to go out with an outfit that shows off my results. Last year my wife and I went as '80s rock stars, and the year before that, she went as a Playboy centerfold and l went as a Chippendale's performer. Not sure about this year...

As I'm aging I find all the Holidays less interesting. It's just another day and it passes and then I can go shopping again because the stores are not over crowed.
