I wonder how hans Asperger would feel if he could have zoomed to the present day and heard how people were butchering his name in the interest of whatever- he might've determined, once he got back to his home time, to just call it "special category atypical autism" or something like that.

Since it is believed he was on the spectrum he would react by having lot of meltdowns. He would be very unhappy with anything other them "autistic psychopathy"

I was actually just wondering the same thing. I was specifically wondering what he'd think about "sperglord". I Googled it, apparently it is used as an insult on games like World of Warcraft for people who are being overly factual and taking things too literally. I don't think he'd be happy about that one

I use the soft label, Aspie. It is easy to say and sounds less dramatic than Aspergers Syndrome. "Syndrome" sounds like something close to illness in my language and is often misunderstood as such.
My psych prefer me to say "Aspergian", but it sounds identity-like in my ears. He urges me to be "just ordinary" (not analyzing too much) and be myself as an aspergian (whatever that is) - and feel as good as any other.
"Aspergian" sounds like a member of another culture/society/nation, which I´m not.
People don´t react as baffeled to "aspie" as they do to "Aspergian" or "Aspergers syndrome".

Aspie serves as a sort of a humerous nickname for someone a little "off" like me, as long as I´m not even done with understanding the basics and how they apply to me.

I used to use "Aspie" and still will if I really need a noun, but generally I'll just use "autistic".

"Aspergian" sounds horrible and forced.

I use both depending on my method of communication. It is easier for me to verbally say Aspie (or Autistic) but for written/typed communication I generally use Aspergian (or Asperger's/Autistic). Aspie just looks weird to me but sounds fine whereas Aspergian sounds weird but looks fine.

How about "aspergiac"?

If you have hemophelia, then you're a "hemopheliac".

Schzophrenia- a "schzophreniac".

Mania- a "maniac".

So if you have aspergers wouldnt that make you an "aspergiac"?

All I know is that if you happened to be African American, and you happened to have been diagnoised with attention deficit disorder, then you could call yourself a "black adder".

Well..

couldn't you?

It also makes it sound like some nationality, so not sure I like this term aspergian, I mean is there a city of aspergia? Though I probably would not directly refer to myself as an 'aspie' either I use the term on here in conversation but don't particularly like that term either.

In other words: you're a "ret*d".

That's the label that you're telling us that you want.

Why is that ?

If you really are an aspie then the option to be "free of a label" is impossible.

The only options are: (1) labels like "aspie", or "aspergian", of "HFA" on one hand, and (2) being labeled something like "ret*d", "weirdo", or "sicko", on the other.

SInce you are denouncing the first group of options then you are embracing the latter group of options. Its as simple as that. One or the other. You know full well that there is no third option.

So why do like being called (and calling others) "ret*d" and "sicko"?

What is wrong with wording it as 'people who have aspergers', "i have aspergers' 'I am on the autistic spectrum' ? I disagree the only terminology options are to refer to ourselves as aspies or aspergian I don't particularly like either myself does that mean I think we are all 'ret*ds' to?

'Aspergian' sounds kind of dumb.

(This is the part where you all quote me and say, 'No, you sound dumb!')

I believe this. The more twists of the word, the better. I love how some wp members have adapted the word asperger into their username.

my own name is a heavily disguised take on it.

Aspie is a cute word. Sounds affectionate.
