The funny part is that a name like "Our Planet Also" indirectly references the notion of a 'wrong planet'.

Q: "So, why did you call your message board Wrong Planet?"
A: "Well, I always felt as if I were on the wrong planet."

Q: "So, why did your community vote to re-name the board Our Planet Also?"
A: "Well, because while we're sometimes treated like aliens, we're not on the wrong planet."

I should mention that when I initially joined WP back in 2008, I didn't necessarily agree about feeling 'misplaced' in this world, per se. I loved the planet, especially the animals and plants on it and, as far as people go, my dear relatives and acquaintances.
Since joining, I've come to understand why other autistics feel as though they're alien to society, and therefore feel that they were born on the 'wrong planet'- in recent years, I've curiously come to feel that way myself.

But I think Our Planet Also would be a clumsy re-naming, and wouldn't at all distract from the notion of autistics being somewhat 'alien', as it continues to run with the 'which planet are they from?' theme.

Alternative suggestions for a new name might reflect other aspects of how one experiences autism, by using different analogies, like being stuck inside a box, being separated from the rest by a wall of glass, being an island, being curled up in a ball like a hedgehog, something referencing sensory overload, the puzzle piece, the ribbon, etc. etc.

First of all no disrespect to Alex. Fact is there will be no vote, only Alex can change the name.

Second. I do not see the connection with anti-NT threads.

Third: I found this place by Googling "Aspergers Forums" . It was the first name that came up. I lurked and liked what I saw. As my signature says I became a member the day I got diagnosed

Now to the main point. There was no attempt to deny the name resonates. I mentioned it in my original post. The proposed name is not meant to deny the feeling exists but to explicitly acknowledge people feel that way and that there are good reasons for people to feel that way. The difference is that I feel it is wrong (pun intended) that we (that means me also) have to feel that way. As far as the name not accomplishing my objective that is why the change but not to 'Our Planet Also" option exists. I am not hung up on the exact name "Our Planet Also" . ("Autistics Planet Too"?,""Wrong Planet No More"?) I am hung up on to not accepting this reality. I am 57 years old and sick of it.

I'm sorry everyone, I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I thought someone would understand how frightening anti-NT and superiority topics are. I guess I'm the only one who feels that way.

People aren't disagreeing with that; they're disagreeing with your assertion that a name change will cause widespread turnarounds in attitude.

Oh, and may I suggest a name change to "NTs Can f**k Off Away From Our Planet?"

I am inclined to agree, for the most part.

I LOVE the name "Wrong Planet." A little bit of self-deprecating humor can go a long way in facilitating understanding with the NT world. I discovered as a young adult that when people would notice my funny little ways - rather than feel defensive about it - I would joke about it and show that I have a sense of humor too.

"Our planet also" or "our planet too" sounds a little too defensive and even slightly self-pitying - to me anyway. Sometimes it's nice to show others that we can laugh at ourselves too. I don't care for these anti-NT comments either. But I cannot imagine how changing the name will in any way whatsoever inhibit frustrated people from posting anti-NT comments.

I like it as it is, "wrong planet" has been the joke synonymous with autism for years, as in, our social awkwardness makes us feel as if we were born on the "wrong planet"

It's just a phase on the site that should boil over soon..

I like Our Planet Also.

Many people I refer to the site are turned off by the name. Especially parents who I send over.

Perhaps the new site could be called Wrong Planet 2.0?

There's no need to get so politically correct that we dare not refer to a feeling that people have, lest people believe that negative feeling is a statement of value.

People's interpretation is their own responsibility, and we shouldn't fall into the trap of trying to find a name that nobody can twist at the expense of expressing something unifying. All that would accomplish is a lack of variety, because variety may include things that some people don't like. Normally, if people don't agree with the themes and feelings of a forum, they just go elsewhere and that's that. There's no shortage of forums or forum software. Life goes on.

As for forum cultures, they exist due to numbers and because it's what's allowed. Whatever attitudes and behaviors are rewarded with attention, agreement, and posting privilege are repeated.

Wrong has the wrong connotation to me.

I love this best of all. From a marketing perspective, it best represents the over all feel of the board.

ASD people belong too!

Our Planet Also, I like that much better!

I think the jerks and conformists are on the wrong planet, not us. :x

I like the name, WrongPlanet. It's what's attracted me to this community 10 years ago, to begin with. :)
