Why do NTs so readily respect a supposed authority?

Why do ASD's do the same thing?
Example:
I shared on these forums how I've managed to successfully treat my symptoms. People called me a liar, accused me of trying to sell them something, or figured it was a hoax. Many said they would not believe a word of it unless it came from an MD with a complete medical study to back it up. They refuse to believe my word and experiences because I'm not an authority figure on the subject that they can trust. To mitigate that, I suggested they don't take my word for it at all and simply try what I've done for themselves and find out in a matter of days/weeks whether it works wonders for them as it has me. But, nope.. people would rather wait 5 or 10 years for someone with the title of "Doctor," to tell them it's ok to try a medicinal diet to relieve their ASD symptoms.
*shrug* I don't know why people do that. Dogma? Indoctrination? Both?

you are overcomplicating things- more learned helplessness than anything else. for many of us, no matter what we tried when younger and more pliable, nothing worked worth a damn. so after a while we gave up. a cure could land on our doorstep tomorrow and we'd no longer care because too much of our lives was already in the toilet for anything to matter anymore.

I comprehend what you're saying, but I just can't relate. I can't relate to giving up on my present & future self just because my past sucked - and my past HAS indeed sucked. But now I'm much happier/healthier and looking forward to a full & fun life ahead that I'm continuing to work hard for. I can't imagine deciding to spend my life complaining about things vs. trying to change them for the better by any means necessary.

when you get to be my age without any panacea in sight, nihilism becomes a lot more inexorable. IOW all my best years were long ago.
Because they have a hive like mind! Like a bee colony without their queen they will go crazy and kill eachother off.

I wonder what this earth would be like sans NTs? it reminds me of a documentary about a troupe of baboons whose alpha males were killed off by eating TB-infected meat. from that point on, it became a kinder gentler troupe, and all new arrivals were inoculated, as it were, with the kinder and gentler meme.
hmm, yes it is strange. i treat everyone the same, people in authority or not. but i think in your example it is a bit different since you are in school and the mindsets of teenagers etc etc. but others have already posted and explained it more.
also, i dont think it is good to label people 'sheeple' and such when talking about these sort of things (or at all really). they are different than us, they think differently, there is a logic to the way they are acting, just maybe a logic we can't/choose not to follow. they consider more of the social aspect or something, i am not sure how to word this, sorry. it just feels like a very flimsy criticism, and a kind of superiority thing.
Ok, I see now how my example isn't exactly accurate, it is just one aspect of it. But what about when people hear these interesting "facts", that make no sense, and believe it without question because the source just seems to know what they are talking about?
Example: I have heard people say, "Did you know that humans are only the second smartest animals on earth?" What? No, dolphins are not smarter than humans. Yet they believe it, and they don't think about it at all. Dolphins are intelligent animals, but they aren't smarter than humans. That should be obvious.
Also, "Did you know that before it touches oxygen, our blood is actually blue?" False. Blood is bright red in the arteries, and dark red in the veins. Oxygen does not make it turn red. But people believe this, just because it sounds right. They don't actually think about it.
I've become very wary of questions beginning with, "Did you know..." because the question is posed in a way that it states that something which has not been proved is true.

Someones ability to maintain authority may be one of the things they are simply the best at, also you need authority regardless if you like or not, deal with it
Authority = Structure = The foundation of all modern society
If there was no structure it would be anarchy, and anarchy does not work with any society bigger than a few thousand people
Nobody likes listening to authority but you have to if you want to be succesful
Also no offence OP but if your wondering why people probably were not listening to you is because it sounds like you were being a narcisstic ass

i think on this, it is maybe less of an authority thing and more of something that gets repeated over and over until people just accept it as fact, there's a word for it but i can't remember at the moment. since they hear it from many different places and people, they assume it is correct. i think that is something all humans are susceptible to, but since we are used to analyzing our thoughts constantly we can recognize it faster/easier?
also if you say something with enough confidence people will probably believe you, it's a bit easier than having to find sources for every claim. btw i like your icon

It seems like autistic people do this too, like the frequent references to what temple grandin said about autistic brains or how autistic people think while not having demonstrated competence in a relevant field like neuroscience.

I don't know, maybe that's how I sounded, but I was actually trying very hard not to sound that way. I don't think I'm always right, but I did get pretty annoyed when they started laughing at me and telling me how stupid I am. They were treating me like a child, not like a "narcissistic ass". I would rather them tell me I'm being a jerk than laugh at me.
No offense, but it is kind of contradictory to say, "no offense", and then say something that is inherently offensive.

By "No offence" the point I meant to get across was that What you did was an ass move but it does not exactly make you an ass

I consider the word "ass" to be inherently offensive, because it doesn't really have a specific meaning when used to describe someone, other than to be offensive. I've never heard anyone use that word unless they were trying to insult someone. Also, the way you said "being" an ass just came across to me as more insulting than if you had said "acting" like one, because it implies that I am one (or at least that I was).
And I really don't see how what I did was impolite. If I'd interrupted them and tried to make them look stupid, then yes, I'd understand that. But I waited for them to stop talking, and I actually clarified with them first to make sure I understood what they thought. And when I initially corrected them, I did so in the form of a suggestion ("but I thought that he was just using an analogy", something to that effect). That is when they said I'm wrong and were laughing, and so I that's when I just told them what I put in my OP. And they continued calling me dumb and didn't even consider what I said.
