Music (usually heavily synthesized indie stuff produced in home studios)
Cartoons/Animation (I've recently got into anime as well)
Writing historically accurate interactive fiction
Studying illustration (and recently got into web comics)
Ancient history, timeline of the world and of culture/technology.

The vast majority of my thought power, emotion and time goes into the above.

I was so happy watching Wicked in New York. Overwhelming happy. I love it so much. Before seeing it I was already a fan of the songs Defying Gravity (Glee version) and For Good (John Glosson & Jennifer Nettles). If anyone ever has the chance to see Wicked I would highly recommend it.

I also have all sorts of eclectic interests. When I was a kid it was mainly monsters, into which various other things got folded (dinosaurs, for example). Probably the most prominent and prevalent though would be language in general, and the English language in particular. Also, human behavior and psychology in general and "non-ordinary" minds and/or states of consciousness in particular. Finally, another childhood interest which I've maintained and expanded into the present day: Magic, both in the sense of mental illusions and sleights-of-hand, and as the various ways in which people across cultures have attempted to influence and understand reality, including both material and social technologies. Writing itself is, by the way, an example of both. There are numerous other avenues and alleyways that branch off of these main intellectual thoroughfares, as well as linking them together, but those are the three big ones.

Oh, and on a rather more prosaic note, I also tend to get a bit obsessed with certain TV shows or stories, and read / listen to / watch them over and over again. Something about the familiarity soothes me.

Same for me. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched 'Bleak House', 'Bladerunner', 'Ladyhawke' and the Harry Potter films.

I like watches, obviously. I don't repair them or modify them, though, as I'm too clumsy. And collecting them isn't particularly engaging, as there are only so many that are interesting, and only so many that I can afford. I do like photographing them. But, I'm not really engaged enough to call it a "special interest".

The one thing I've done enough to get good at is programming, but that's my job, so it doesn't really count. I'm interested enough to do off-hours programming, but I'm not obsessed and I don't even like keeping up with the latest buzword-compliant technology. In fact, I get a lot of satisfaction solving problems with the least amount of technology possible, and from my job performance vs other people it seems to be a good approach.

So, I don't really have a special interest. But when I'm interested in something, I am engaged enough to be distracted from things that are more important.

Now, if only I could stay interested in guitar enough to learn to play the stupid thing.

I have quite a lot of special interests, some of which are obsessions that last for years.

My special interests have included: animals, drawing, architecture (floor plans and models), miniature models (model railways), science and technology (chemistry, robotics, etc), creating fantasy worlds and characters, supernatural phenomena, music (listening and playing), movies, TV shows, reading (mostly non fiction right through to fanfiction, and computer games. There are many more.

Some have been very specific: Bermuda Triangle, child migrants, rainwater tanks, elevators, fire, buckles/fasteners, etc

My special interest now is "aucorigia" - developmental condition which is characterised by autocontrast (asynchronous development or something similar) and originality (bizarrity). It is developmental socio-emotional-behavioral disorder usually. It ecompasses Asperger syndrome and similar conditions which make a person "weird" and "odd" since childhood. It is not caused by intellectual disability or inability to use speech to communication. Aucorigia is "generalisation" of the terms such as AS, HFA, mild PDD. Very mild aucorigia is not a PDD, but profound one can be worse than intellectual disability. Concept of aucorigia is inclusive view to "Aspiedom"

Aucorigia has different etiologies. Some people with it have rather normal social needs, some have idiosyncratic or restricted. They are often obsessive and have atypical emotionality. They tend to have more or less sensory issues, activity disturbances and cognitive anomalies.

Female Aucorigians (especially with above-average intelligence) can be "kookily" interesting for me. I do not want to think impurely about them. It looks that it is easier to think about them in non-sexual way to me because their aucoriginess which made them "soulmates" to me is strangely "pleasant" to my mentality.

Ancient history as in classical period history or earlier? I like it all but I tend to gravitate most towards the classical period up to the 15th century.

Yeah, I've had a lot of different special interests and I wonder how special they are if we have so many. They can be all consuming though.

I still have severe interest in "Aspieness". It may be due to the confusion created by misleading use of the term "NLD". Many cases of "NLD" for me are cases of serious and complex developmental disability - cases of some subtypes of autism spectrum conditions. I like to use the same name to describe such "NVLDers", "diagnosable" Aspies, people with HFA and other "high-functioning" similar disorders. For me a PDD is a marked disability which has symptoms especially in socio-emotional areas and starts in early childhood. It is "general neuroatypicality", "developmental idiosyncracy disorder/syndrome" (my neologism), not only a learning problem. It is hard to define to me.Some Aspies in Polish AS forum may view my posts about my classifications as boring and irritating, but I think that I may do something which may be very helpful. I think that the problem of "Aspieness" is not properly treated in the world. In America there is serious problem with misleadning name "NLD", which for me is often used to decribe something which is evident "Aspieness" to me! I think that the usage of such a name for such a problem is definately unacceptable and has to be stopped.
