The only thing I know is texting, and that's more out of necessity than anything. Friends of mine are often at work during the time I'm awake, so any conversing with them at all is text-only, or nothing. It also means not having to deal with actual phone calls.

same here, would take a text over a phone call any time. worst is video chat, though i didn't freak out and freeze as badly as i thought i would the first time i did it. :)

I have no interest in popular culture either but I do like pop music.

When I care about something I am 100% into it. Pop culture will suck me in if I let it.

So -- shows I can binge watch are perfect, because I can get them out of my system quick. But if I start caring about any larger trends...I can start looking like Abed on "Community." (Not that I'm complaining...but I usually seem more to outsiders like an Annie/Britta hybrid.)

Again, ASD is a spectrum and some NTs are on the cusp (the "broader autism phenotype")...so I think it may not be useful or enlightening to compare big stuff like this to determine what is "autistic" about it. NTs get obsessed with pop culture too, and ignore it, too. The difference may be in the whys and the hows rather than the observable phenomenon itself.

One thing that may be a difference: reality TV seems to satisfy two needs -- for companionship for some, and for gossip for others. I can imagine a person with ASD wanting companionship, but maybe not the drama so much. They may turn to it more for ways to safely observe human interactions and pick a character as a model.

I don't do any of those things either, except for sending text messages, but it's purely for communication. I barely ever watch TV, I don't give a crap about sports, I don't really follow celebrities, except for some of my favorite musicians, I don't keep up with the latest movies or TV series, and shockingly, I hardly even keep up with current trends in gaming. I do read Slashdot a fair bit, as well as perusing various online forums, but I don't really keep up with mainstream popular culture. I wouldn't say I don't have an interest in it, but I generally tend to seek out things I find interesting, rather than just going along with what's popular.

I generally dislike mainstream culture. My things is politics. I closely track politics for my job, and because I find it fascinating. Other than that, I don't really care about anything.
