With all this talk about analog clocks, here's a Michael Jackson joke. Visualize an analog clock if you're having trouble understanding it.

Q: When is bedtime at the Neverland Ranch?
A: When the big hand reaches the little hand.

Yeah, I was telling time at a VERY young age but it still takes a good while to comprehend. I end up only looking at the minute hand and working entirely off that now. Takes about a quater of the time to register.

I was in middle school before I ever figured out reading time.

And even now I have to take a few extra seconds to read a clock. It still doesn't come lightening quick.

Took me till I was about 20 to use an analog watch and be able to tell time with it.

I had no trouble learning how tell time on a regular clock. I grew up in the sticks, so i didn't regularly see digital clocks until the 80's at least. And SteveK, we had a microwave with the flappy numbers well into the late 80's! I didn't use a button, digital microwave until I moved out in the mid-90's!
I have to picture a clock face when reading digital time. I also can "guess" what time it is by reading the sun and/or closing my eyes and picturing time passing.
I see my son is behind in reading a regular clock because of his exposure to digital time and literal thinking. We covered the unit while homeschooling, I'm not sure how proficient he is at it.

so do i a bit
i do much prefer digital watches and i do prefer people reading the time as "2:15" instead of "quarter-past 2"

I could apparantly read an analogue clock aged 3.
I am told I once challanged for play-school assistance for having break five minutes early, having correctedly read the clock on the wall.

I didn't have problems with telling the time, but I could never do the maths related to time. I just couldn't get my head around the concept, and still have to think hard about adding or subtracting times.

Yes: it took me longer than my peers to learn to tell the time and I still have trouble with it.

Therefore when people ask me what the time is, I still tend to say "Time to get a watch" :D

Ya, I can't do math with time either. In addition to that, I have no sense of what time it is or how much time has past. The whole concept of time just goes right by me.

Up until fairly recently it would take me about 20-30 seconds to figure out what time it was looking at an analog clock.

I had so much difficulty with reading clocks and watches that my father got me a cuckoo clock... it drove everyone else nuts but I counted the bird sounds easily and loved it, especially the roman numerals because it was like a code I could challenge myself to crack. After that it was easier to understand other clocks.

Analog when I was 4. Dislike digital. Perhaps because they didn't have digital when I was young, or that analog is spatial verses abstract. I don't wear a watch. I can guess the time of day well enough to be there on time. And you know? There are too many clocks in the house... micro, coffe-maker, alarm, thermostat clock, etc. etc. I dread when the power goes out and have to reset them all....
