I've been going on tumblr a bit this year because of my obsession with trying to figure out SJW's and this new wave of feminism which all seem to be hypocritical and make no sense, and tumblr is apparently like some sort of main internet base for them. It's interesting to watch on the sidelines, but still confusing nonetheless, especially since I have a hard time telling the trolls from the people who really equate staring to rape...
Plus I think people feel comfortable with being absolutely abhorrent on tumblr to people who don't share their views exactly (like how Black Tumblr went after Autistic Tumblr for having Austistic selfie day on the day it's always been on which happened to be a day before the Black selfie day (#blackout). Black Tumblr ended up bullying and harassing autistics for taking away from #blackout)

It is not a site I would recommend to anyone. People are absolute jerks to whoever they want and then yell about triggers and privilege. It's at least interesting to study, though it's debatable on if I've learned anything at all from it aside from the fact that we will never have any form of peace so long as these people exist...

This is basically what Tumblr is all about, aside from the fandoms. (and yes, SJW = social justice warriors)

Quote:
Can we stop treating religion as a fundamental human characteristic? We have to stop treating religion like sexual orientation or race. Religion is an oppressive hierarchy controlled by the ruling class to impose cultural norms which benefit them. I shouldn’t be expected to be respectful of your disgusting oppressive religion. Why should I keep my mouth shut towards a value system which has historically and, to this day actively devalues homosexuality and imposed brutal sanctions on men and women who defy gender norms. Never forget the men and women who burned on stakes in the name of God.

For white people, racism is an uncomfortable conversation. For everyone else, it is daily oppression.

Quote:
Black Americans, Don’t ever pretend life is hard for you in the USA. If it was you’d be trying to leave. I don’t see a single black refugee at the Mexican or Canadian border. Stop lying, stop playing the victim.

Quote:
if you are cisgender and arguing with a transgender person about what is or isnt transphobic then you have already lost

if you are white and arguing with a poc about what is or isnt racist then you have already lost

if you are straight and arguing with a queer person about what is or isnt homophobic then you have already lost

if you are part of a majority and arguing with an oppressed group about what is or isnt offensive to the oppressed group then you have already lost and your arguing is only helping to perpetuate oppressive ideals and commentary

A lot of 21st centurey newspeak is from internet social networking abbreviations (like YOLO, and SJW- which does mean "social justice warrior"- it puzzled me for a while too). I had the impression that "swag" was stuff (like 'bling') that you wore- bad ass clothing or something (to advertise your badassness, or badassery, or whatever the noun form would be). Lol!

In the main I niether like, nor dislike newspeak.

A few years ago I began hearing young folks say "my bad". Then joking around I would start to say "as the young folks would say it's 'my bad'". Then, like an ear worm, you get stuck with it , and I found myself using "my bad" in normal conversation as well.

Several of these are obviously jokes.

The last two are. But the others I really do hope so but I doubt it.

That's one of the problems, I have a hard time telling who is joking and who is serious! :/ There are enough of both to blur the lines.

Thanks for the quotes from Tumblr, kamiyu910.

I don't think I'll be leaving WP for that place ay time soon. As judged by those remarks you quoted, they're way too boorish and opinionated to do any good. They're so angry and polarised, passing off their views as certainties, yet without providing any evidence. I don't think their discussions are likely to go anywhere except round and round.

It's a great shame that they waste the privilege of Web dialogue like that. They could be so much more. They could express their opinions as opinions (instead of hard fact), sit back and listen to each other with open minds. Strange that they're termed social justice warriors, though I agree that they do seem to be warriors.

Or people using a common word to mean its opposite, such as using "literally" when they mean "figuratively"?

I (quite literally) hate that. :x

If you want to break free from being annoyed by language change, take an intro linguistics class. 8)

I hate PC BS. I also hate the word "trigger". We now warn people that they might feel a certain way by what we say. What the f**k happened to this country? I got your goddamn trigger and it's not a word, it's on my finger. Thats what it's all gonna come down to I bet you. Not by me, but by somebody who is crazy enough to just go nuts about it.

Unfortunately, this seems to be happening every day. I would say that the ones using the guns have not taken enough precaution to understand their triggers, and foolishly think they will end their problems by destroy their symbols (which they see as other people).

I hope you don't mean to include all firearm owners in your description of "the ones using the guns." If so, then my firearms are defective; they haven't even bumped someone accidentally.

I meant the people committing mass murders/spree shootings, not all firearm owners. That's what OliveOilMom seemed to be alluding to.
