My vision seemed fine throughout my childhood and adolescence, but then suddenly when I was 19, I realized I couldn't read anything from far away, so I've been wearing glasses since then. And yeah, no way would I ever wear contacts. The thought of sticking something inside my eye sounds very uncomfortable and scary.

Im a middle aged autistic but apparently my eyesight is perfect and i dont need glasses for anything.
Opticians say thats rather rare for a person of my age as most peoples eyesight deteriorates a bit as they get older, but mine seems perfect both long distance and short distance.

To posit a guess I would say that we are more likely to wear glasses for comfort reasons(they are more comfortable than contacts), but it would be interesting to see what percentage of the ASD community wear glasses/contacts VS what percentage of the NT community do.

I am very nearsighted and wear glasses to correct this. But so are my mom and dad, both of them NTs.

I think this is the reason. Even though I don't have sensory issues to a disabling degree, the thought of putting things in my eyes does not appeal to me. Additionally, some people on the spectrum may not care so much about their appearance. I don't see much reason to get contacts if you don't care about your appearance. Also people on the spectrum generally have less income so less able to afford.
