I am a morning person, probably an anomaly here. I am sometimes up at 4 a.m., although I don't go downstairs to begin my actual daily routine until 6. I spend those two hours reading. I tend to tire around 9 p.m.

I get the impression that those of us who like to snooze, before getting out of bed, feel a little guilty about it. The sensation of drifting in and out of sleep in the morning is delicious and is highly prized by me and I love it. It gives my subconscious mind time to digest my problems and suggest solutions. Enjoy it guilt-free if you are able to get away with it.

Many of us seem to be more comfortable as 'second shifters'. If you happen to be one, my advice is to try to find a way to do that. Life is difficult enough without forever having to fight your natural inclinations.

It depends what's going on that day, but 90% of the time I dread waking up. I hate mornings.

When I haven't had enough sleep, it's terrible. Feels like being born or something - all these new stimuli. The burning light, the loud noises, the coldness. Ugh!

When I was younger I had a paper round (who says child labour only happens in the 3rd world...). This forced me out of bed every morning at 5:00am.
I stayed like that till going to uni. I still wake up in the mornings but several hours later.
I don't necessarily stay in bed, but find I take forever to get ready in the mornings.

So do I
But that's probably because I get up, brush my teeth and then go back to bed to watch Breakfast with Dermot and Kate for about an hour.

I've been nocturnal for about two years now. 8O The hustle and bustle [and people, and daylight] of daytime life is too much for me. I naturally wake up at about 11pm, and go to sleep at about 7am. I don't necessarily plan to live like this forever though.

It simply doesn't, and never has, felt at all natural to start the day in the morning. I've often wondered whether perhaps I have an unusual "body clock", or whether I'm simply trying to prevent sensory overload by avoiding the day. Reading other people's posts here has been interesting.

It took me 7 hours before I could summon up the energy to get dressed this morning. Night person with depression is what that is. Oh plus arm pain

I would do that if I could, my mum complains though if I stay in bed till really late. I could happily stay up all night and sleep all day though. If I have nowhere to go then that actually makes sense as well, it's quieter at night so I can concentrate or relax, and you don't have sunlight either. It's perfect for me really :D

I like to get up at least an hour and a half before I have to leave the house so that I have time to properly wake up. I go to bed early but it doesn't seem to help my tiredness.

I find that sometimes I wake up just before the clock goes off and I'd wide awake - must have woken naturally. The worst is when I'm in the middle of a dream and the alarm seems to tear me from sleep.

With me it's not the getting up that's the problem, it's the prospect of having to do stuff. You know, the whole go and sort out the BS that's going hit at work and the dealing with people. Oh boy, the dealing with people

Catch 22

I go to bed late to "push" tomorrow as far into the future as possible (irrational, yes ... but who said I was ever rational ?).
So I'm too tired to cope with the next day.
So more stuff hits the fan because I'm less able to cope.
So I'm stressed about the coming day.
So I go to bed late ...

Having said that, I've always preferred the night anyway.

i've been told that i'll curse you off if you attempt to wake me up early in the morning. i'll occassionally throw whatever's near me at the person. i'm really grumpy in carpool because sometimes my friend's annoying dad will listen to a talk show or two. i don't want to listen to someone talking in the morning... if that's not horrible then listening to mainstream pop music is also another thing we listen to in the car. of course, i'll occasionally mumble my dislike of what we're listening to without pretense. my friend's dad doesn't put his stupid seatbelt on... my friend's told him to put it on before and does...and then the next day he doesn't :x. he annoys to the brink of insanity.

what makes me not being a morning person even worse is that every other person at my school seems to be all smiles in the morning. the spanish teacher will occasionally ask me: "Why you so tiyad, chica?" i give her the same response each time: "It's morning, what do you think?" strangely she says doesn't respond and keeps smiling after i say this.

Bad things happen if I'm awake early in the morning... But let me sleep in and I'll be just fine.
