To me, the problem with horror movies isn't about how scary they may or may not be but because they usually just don't make any sense. Even Wizards vs Aliens makes more sense than the vast majority of horror movies.

Horror movies don't really scare me because I know it's all fake, it's all acting, the blood isn't real or the deaths, the music score is to just scare you so it doesn't mean something bad will happen just because of the creepy music. I know the trick so because they have cried wolf so many times, I don't get fooled by the music anymore. Scary movies get predictable when you have seen them.

I like Halloween itself, with the dressing up and the candy, but what I don't like is the fireworks show multiple people in the neighbourhood were putting on. Especially the super loud/close "bangs" that sounded like gunfire and the two times I woke up in the night to something akin to a sonic boom. I was exhausted last night by bedtime, half of it being the fireworks and the other half having to get up early for church in the morning.

I love Halloween and every year we have a party for kids. For the last couple of years it has been 100% for kiddos on the spectrum and they love the parties. Of course, we don't have 30 kids, but only about 6 plus parents. We dim the lights, we play music but not too loud, all rooms of the house are open to the kids, i.e. my son's bedroom they can play video games or whatever, the living area is where the adults are at mostly with music, my bedroom I leave open and the kids can go there and lay on the bed or relax and get away if they feel overwhelmed. It never fails that during the party I see one or two kids go into my bedroom and just lay on the bed for 15-30 minutes ;-) ...then they go back to the group. We have rules of no parent can bug the kids, provided they are not hurting anyone, they can say/do whatever they want...We had a wonderful Halloween this year. My AS son planned the whole thing and his friends loved it! PS we did not go trick or treating or answered the door

Idk, it feels easier to me to interact without fear because most people either didn't recognize me or i felt like there were less consequences for having a social blunder?

I really like horror so I'm biased on the scary stuff 8)

I definitely hate going to really loud parties and stuff though, after a certain point i just get overwhelmed and need to leave.

I sort of disagree, being startled isn't so bad in all contexts for one...though I can't say I go in a lot of haunted houses, I mean they can be sorta fun but I don't make a point to go to any around halloween unless I am with a group who wants to do that.

Also I don't think costumes make socializing harder, if anything they can be a good conversation starter...and for some reason wearing a costume can make some interacting easier.

Also I didn't know that the NT and Autism spectrum ways of having fun where completely and entirely different with no cross-over. I can have fun doing some of the same things that are also fun for NTs, I don't check myself anytime I am having fun to make sure its not 'NT fun' rather than aspergers fun. I mean NT, Autistic, whatever else....we're all humans with human traits.

Then of course its one of the few holidays that isn't focused on some aspect of Christianity at all, I mean granted most people aren't having traditional pagan celebrations...some of that has been rather lost but I still like that its not a celebration that can be attached to christian theology.

I always liked it. It was an excuse for me to play pretend and wear my dinosaur costume all day, and not something I had to do with other children if I didn't want to. One of my schools had an event where children would take turns going on little parades to show off their costumes, and I hated that. All those eyes on you.

The one time I went in a haunted house when I was 13, I decided to leave pretty quickly and haven't been in one since...

Halloween looks really fun in America. It's really rather rubbish in the UK - there's cheap tat for sale and cheap crappy window displays in all the shops. No-one over the age of ten dresses up (unless maybe they are popular people who get invited to fancy dress parties and that's not me).

Trick or Treat wasn't around in my youth. It's here now but it often devolves into sullen teens ringing the doorbell (not in any costume) and demanding stuff. Some rather aggressive youths have started hanging around locally recently and I spent this Halloween in a rather anxious state that they would ring my doorbell. They didn't though.

I now have to weather Fireworks Night/Bonfire Night/Guy Fawkes Night- that's officially tonight but I expect most firework parties will be on Saturday.

The Halloween you guys know is very different than the Halloween I know.

I just walk around my neighbourhood collecting candy with no costume, since I hate costumes! People rarely ask me why I do not have a costume on.
