Science and prejudice often overlap. Sad, but true.

What a shady thing to say. I would think "shade" is a very applicable word here. If it had been said about black people, there would definitely be outcry about his/her choice of words.

I have called myself a different creature countless times in counseling. My counselor never got it though. She would ask if I meant alien, a different species or what. I know that I was using risky language since calling someone a "different species" has been used in past by racists. Nevertheless, I do feel like a different creature because I am NOT a social creature by any means. I do think I am human though. Austistic children are still humans so saying they are like chimpanzees is just not right.

I am sideways to people, not above or below them. I often feel like part of a different species too.
Also, Cockroach: I'm not telling people what to do. I was simply asking nicely for someone to be nice. There's a big difference between telling and asking, you know.

If not understanding bigotry, gossip TV, or the desire to bully, steal, and murder is because of my autism and makes me a subhuman animal, than I shall proudly stand with my brothers and sisters the animals. The Native Americans called all animals their brothers and did not see them as a separate group with no feelings. They were worthy of respect and care. Even if they needed to kill an animal for food or clothing, they would do it with a minimum of waste and give thanks. And calling us robots is patently untrue, since we are capable of judgement and self-volition.

The most fundamental thing about prejudice is that it reflects a lazy mind--someone too lazy to get to know the people they make generalizations about, too lazy to question their assumptions, and too stubborn to change in the face of contrary evidence.
