Not in those precise words, but often people with AS do imply this. Not all of us, but a lot do. I know so many NTs over 18 who still live at home, maybe because they can't afford to move out, or can't find a job, or even not ready yet. I've seen posts saying stuff like ''I'm 20 and still live at home''. Lots of people still live at home at 20. In the UK the average age of moving out of parents house is actually 25-26. I know lots of 21-year-old NTs who still live at home and have a messy room like a teenager.

But maybe it is different in America. More members here are from America, and maybe society is different there, and maybe more people do move out in their late teens. But here in the UK things are different. Don't forget, we have a crappy government. So society is a little more tolerant of young adults that aren't fully independent.

I'm sorry if I have offended you in any way.

I repeat that you say in your topic that "a lot of AS think that no NT lives with their parents after the age of 18, all have one interest which is parties, alcohol and sex, hate anything to do with education, are married with kids by age 22, and are all emotionally well-adjusted..."

It is NOT TRUE that most of AS think anything of that.
Nobody (NTorAS) would think such an unrealistic idea, unless he/she is mentally ret*d. Most of AS are NOT mentally ret*d. So it is a big lie to say it, and you know it.
It is a shameful stereotype that you are trying to propagate.

Joe90 is not lying because I know somebody who does think in those narrow stereotypes, and it's convenient (and easy) for him because he's a black & white thinker which he can't help. I'm talking about me, of course.

<--- Guilty as charged.

And now LaetiBlabla you're actually misquoting Joe90, and apparently are privy to the mind of every aspie in the world? Seriously disingenuous.

Moving on... Joe90, there is definitely a strong societal pressure here in the US to move out of parents' house ASAP. This has lessened in the past decade as the economy has made that less feasible for many but it's still ingrained in a lot of Americans' mindset.

[quote="Joe90"]I find there's so much stereotyping about NTs here, and I find it more irritating than stereotypes about Autism.

A lot of Aspies seem to think that no NT lives with their parents after the age of 18, all have one interest which is parties, alcohol and sex, hate anything to do with education, are married with kids by age 22, and are all emotionally well-adjusted.

Those are the thoughts that the girl is attributing to AS.

No NT or AS have any of those thoughts, i'm sorry.

Yes, these strange beings known as NTs, they confound me. They seem to look like me in some aspects, but are so fundamentally different...

Seriously, I have always felt like NTs were a different "species" from me, like I didn't belong amongst them, I knew they would never truly understand me. I will admit that I tend to "stereotype" the NT species, as sheepish, dim-witted creatures.

I like to think of myself as many things, but sheepish and dim-witted? No.

Note the key words "tend to". Do I think every NT is like that? No, of course not, that would be stupid and offensive, but a good majority are sheepish (as in, just following everything in blind flocks) creatures. This trait is particularly prevalent amongst the youths of the species, who like to follow fleeting trends in an attempt to be "cool" or part of the crowd. This tendency has increased with the invention of online social media.

AS & NT are not different species. We are all human and we want to live in peace.
A person, is not a AS or a NT, a person is plenty of things, a personnality, a part of knowledge, a personal history, a friend, a co-worker, a football lover, a daughter, a farther, etc.

Yes. You left out the "seem to". No matter how insistent you are on ignoring those words, they are extremely important and have a huge impact on the meaning of the entire paragraph that contains them. They indicate that these are simply perception (and acknowledge this) rather than the statement of fact you seem to be taking it as.

And you have no way of knowing that nobody has those thoughts. If you think you can know, Joe90 isn't the one here who is lying. Quite frankly, it's offensive that you think you can speak for me and for everyone else with AS. The fact you're right about my attitude on this matter in my case doesn't really matter, it's the presumption that you could know that without me telling you and could do the same for every other person on the planet that makes your behavior so obnoxious.

Who died and made you God?

Also, calling BS on your claim that nobody with AS thinks that way given that I've seen those thoughts expressed numerous times.

Joe90: I completely agree.

Austinfrom1995: I think the "sheep" thing is just about what appears on the surface, and ignores the fact that NTs are just trying to figure their lives out too. To think of a person as a sheep ignores how complex all people are. In addition, is there any evidence for the idea that NTs are driven by conformity?

LaetiBlabla: I do see those kinds of posts quite a bit, that say that NTs have a hive mind or only care about socializing or are incapable of original thought. There's the quote by Temple Grandin that goes, "If the autism gene were eliminated, you wouldn't have science or art. All you would have is a group of people standing around and socializing and never getting anywhere."

Here's my problem with all of this as has been discussed.
Until 3 months ago, any of you would have concluded I am NT. I apparently am in that uncanny valley. It's totally fubar'd my life, but you would have thought I was NT.

So, those of you who would have applied NT to me then would have been wrong.

Also, just can't go along with the idea that Science, Art and well, any creative endeavor would not happen if it weren't for Autists. And to assume that NTs are not capable is really just turning a prejudice around.

When you don't like what someone says, why do write stereotypes in another place, addressed to other people, stereotype built upon lies about "how AS think about NTs"

Are you afraid to talk to that precise person who told the thing that irritated you? Because that is precisely the person who could best talk with you.
- If one AS tells something, should all AS take the responsibility of explaining why and how ?
- If one NT tells something, should all NTs take the responsibility of explaining why and how?
... all this without knowing really the person's why and how.

(By the way, we ALL have different genes, that is what makes the planet interesting)

I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought all Aspies thought that way. I'm simply saying that some do, and that it's not a good thing.

I find blanket generalizations like that annoying in general so I agree. Neurotypicals are individual people just like those of us on the spectrum. They have varied interests and personalities and people with autism are not superior to them. A neurotypical is just someone who doesn't have neurological differences/disorder or isn't autistic depending on what NT definition you adhere to. I hardly think that suggests they have everything else in common with each other to.

I am currently on disability, but eventually I would like to be able to find work and I imagine its going to be a rather dead end job, just something that gives more income than SSI. But yes I have observed neurotypicals expressing different interests, and having different lifestyles. Another annoying thing is the assumption that only neurotypicals drink, have social gatherings or even indulge in drug use(cannabis included), or even that everyone who drinks or indulges in anything else loves partying. Plenty of people prefer smaller groups getting together moreso than parties a lot of people I know certainly seem to prefer that.

(By the way, we ALL have different genes, that is what makes the planet interesting)

Technically, we only have 4 nucleic acids: G, T, C, A.

It is the arrangement of these 4 nucleic acids that create the gene sequences that are expressed. Hence terms like, "Humans and Chimps 'Genes' are 98% identical."

The misnomer there is not the amount of shared genes, but the arrangement of genomes and how they are expressed. Otherwise, while sharing many traits, there are very obvious differences.

I also think that while NT's are most definitely individuals and I see no adherence to a hive mind at all, they are more homogeneous in makeup than ND's are. This is buttressed by the brain scans done that show a great deal of uniformity in the NT brain activations and wirings while there is no conformity with NDs. But, that does not mean they are not individuals.
