I was terrified of falling through the slats of my second floor house addition when it was in progress. I feared I would fall to the ground. I think I was a little terrified of heights at that time, too.

Losing my footing when going down the stairs and falling on my bottom or twisting an ankle. Not to mention the embarrassment if someone was watching.

People coming up to me from behind. Made me jump out of my skin! (Still does.)

As a child, I was never too fond of heights mainly, that when I was young recalling a memory of trying to walk the side of a mountain when it was windy whereby, never did I wish to do that again. :(

kangaroos, imaginary ones I thought I could hear coming for me. I also had an issue with closing my eyes, I was afraid of all those weird colors and such you see when your eyes are shut. I hated anything that glows in the dark, freaks me out and I refused to sleep with any electrical devices in my room like a T.V. or radio cause I think they're going to turn on by themselves and that ghosts can speak through them, although I have never heard a ghost through a t.v. or anything.

I'm over all that though. maybe.

I feared, when I was alone in the house, that I would experience a religious apparition. I was very frightened of the possibility.

I also have the classic fear of heights, not the height itself, but the idea that I would step off or jump.

I'm not afraid of airplanes because I'm enclosed. Even modern rollercoasters with the big should bars don't scare me too much, but I would never go on one of the ones where your feet dangle.

Any other aspies here with any strange fears as a little child?

Were you scared they'd burst?

I worried that an owl would hide between my window shutters and the window, I read somewhere about how they hide in places and being very interested in mice, I was quite scared of them. So my Mum or Dad always had to check the window with me before bedtime for a while.

I have/had a phobia of "sudden water" so showers, especially ones in public places that have these sensors on them, really scared me. I also got scared of balloons (potential of exploding), dogs (potential of barking), fireworks, fire, gas and other things like that but I gather that's not that "weird".

Falling. Any time I have ever fallen, even as an adult (tripping over my own feet), I completely freak out when it happens.

My son has a lot of fears. He's scared to death of toilets-when he's over at the neighbor's house he'll even come home just to use ours because he says the neighbor's is too loud and it scares him. If we are at the doc's office or something, I generally have to make sure that someone else is there just in case he needs to use the restroom or anything-that way someone can drive him home.

He also seems to be scared of getting dirty, eating anything with sugar (since the teacher taught about cavities and how they happen), lights being left on in rooms (he just learned about Earth Day)... things like that. I only say they are fears because when he panics about them, he thinks either his teeth are going to fall out instantly, or the earth is going to blow up if a faucet is leaking.

I was scared of plug holes - The noise of water gurgling frightened me.

I was also scared of a stain on the window.

Storm sewer and heating grates...actually, walking over any grated surface terrified me. In my mind floors were not meant to be see-through and if they were, couldn't be trusted. Heating grates were especially scary in that I could see down them for some distance, but not enough to determine that they weren't bottomless.

Heating oil tanks in basements--they were big, dark, scary, in seldom-visited parts of the house, and meant for unknown purposes.

Sump pumps. Here's this weird-looking mechanical device sticking out of a small hole in a basement floor, a hole with water of unknown depth. What if that hole was bottomless (see above).

The bathtub drain when opened. Where did all that water go? How far did those pipes extend? What if they emptied into some deep subterranean place? What if I were sucked down? How would anyone know?

Unattended running faucets. What if I couldn't reach to turn them off? How much flooding could occur?

Stairs descending into darkness.

I used to be scared of flushing toilets because of the noise and because there used to be a frog that lived in one of our school loos and would always jump out at random times, worms because they are just yukky and this has led to an extreme phobia of the yukky bloodsucking... yukky things.

I used to be scared of hypnosis, and werewolves and spontaneous human combustion -- I spent years secretly convinced that I could explode at any moment because a teacher had read us some extract from a book when I was nine.

I used to be scared of the mechanical rocking horses at the shops -- they were fine as long as they didn't rock. Once I was riding on one, and a little old lady came along and saw that it wasn't going, and she said "Oh you poor thing" and reached out and grabbed a coin, and my mum was like, "NOOOOOO!! !" But she put the coin in and I screamed.

I was / am scared of heights. And funnily enough I was a little bit scared of Tasmanian Devils as a kid, until I knew what they were.

I used to have a fear of sleepwalking.
I have never done it my life, but I was paranoid about the possibility that I might do it, and do dangerous things while doing it.
I was worrying about it for months.

I had endless phobias as a kid. The worst ones were abstract and supernatural. I experienced a lot of weird states of consciousness, including sleepwalking, nightmares (often whilst sleepwalking), and Alice In Wonderland syndrome. The fear these phenomena induced was not helped by the attitude of my parents, who couldn't understand and were very impatient with me and did not offer me comfort. :( These days it's just social stuff that freaks me out. Oh and lifts (elevators).
