Not knowing what to say, or just not having anything to say. Like when someone talks to me it really doesn't even occur to me at first that I should respond, let alone having anything come to mind to actually say to them.

Oh yeah, my brother gets annoyed at me because of that kind of thing on a regular basis. My friend also got a bit annoyed because of that and after explaining why I did that (he already knew about my diagnosis) we came up with a more autism-friendly way for me to communicate to him that I heard what he said. He is a great friend.

In some ways she reminds me of myself, but I know there is more to it than how I would describe myself or how she would describe herself, it's impossible to tell from an online forum. You also strike me as someone with a fairly rigid idea of autism, like someone needs to have very specific social problems; it doesn't work that way.
