Always had a degree of speech difficulties - still do. Part-and-parcel of the 'autism gift pack' I figure.

:D

Sorry about the typo. It was too late to change once I noticed it.

Yea, it stuck out quiet a bit. I guess the forum doesn't let you edit titles after a certain amount of time.

what was the title meant to be? i can change it.

My speech sounds ok to me but for some reason people can often have difficulty making out what I am saying. Maybe I come across more than my fair share of people with poor hearing?!
A recent example I went to get a reduction on the price of a dna kit over the phone and had to give my post code. I said xxx AQ and the person on the other end kept repeating back xxx A2.

It was meant to be "How has your speech been?"

I don't know what happened when I typed in the title. Thanks.

German with a fake Cockney accent awkwardly shoehorned in from the time I was 12 until last year. I've decided not to fake the accent anymore. I was born in Canada into a Canadian family.

I think learned how to speak at a normal age, but I do remember having a few counselors at school who would help me with speech. If I say more than a few words I have pauses in my speech though.

I began speaking at the regular time (around 0:10) then stopped for a year (at around 1:4). For many years I believed my MMR jab caused it (now I don't). When I began speaking again I apparently was quite slow to relearn and had some pronunciation difficulties that persisted into my teenage years.

I think I got quite lucky on the verbal front. I mean, I'm shy, but I'm very good with words.

May I ask why you do not that believe any longer?

this is very curious. when you say "German with a fake Cockney accent", what is meant?

are you meaning to say you spoke english, but with a lot of german words and vernacular thrown in and added a fake cockney accent on top of that?

you spoke german, but somehow managed to take an english language accent and transform it into a variety that would fit german?

or the "german" and "cockney" parts are completely separate?

require help. the linguist in me is dying to know.

My anxiety has gone through the roof over this.

My pop has been diagnosed with brain cancer and now every time I have a speech slur, or if i say the wrong words or make a typo I automatically think I've got a tumour or something.

Can anyone else relate?

My parents think I may of learned to speak a tad latter than average. I was in speech therapy until I started high-school(I could of still qualified but there would of been a hassle). I Had problems pouncing certain sounds like the S, Z, TH, SH, CH, PH.

Well, I had this problem recently, where I mixed up words and numbers and made a lot of typos. It was serious enough for my doctor to send me for a brain scan, and I just got the results and my brain is totally fine. It was probably just a reaction to a very stressful situation.

According to my mother, I couldn't talk properly until I was 3 or 4 years old. She said that I did 'talk' but she couldn't understand it. However, she also said that I went to a pre-school group at that age and the woman that ran the group COULD understand it, so that's a bit confusing. She also told me that I used to run up and down shouting nonsense words.

My mother went into the back garden one day and heard my singing a nursery rhyme, so perhaps I had just been practicing in private. I learnt to read when I was 4, so that must have been rather a busy year.

Apparently I used to never use sentences until 4-5 yrs old if I wanted drink or food thats all i would say didn't see point of adding in extra the words that were not required to get the message across. I still find myself now mimicking other people alot to fit in.
