I have decided to stay for now. I don't want to leave just yet especially as their is much I can still gain out of this.

The real reason is that the negativity is part of why I stayed.

I think it's human nature to focus on the negative---perhaps this is because of a "survival instinct."

There really isn't much which is "positive" in the news. Negative stuff sells.

But there's lots of positivity here on WP, which I believe counteracts, to a considerable extent, the negativity.

I also just enjoy challenging the negative. That as well as some of the drama in the Politics and Religion part since its just who I am.

I've left several times for my sanity. No biggie. I tell anyone who I consider important that I'm leaving and then I come back after I have cooled down. I actually sent out a PM a couple weeks ago saying "I'm done" (those exact words) to a couple people and here I am. I just miss a few people here (one in particular) and that's why I keep coming back. : )

When, I come here at least in the past few weeks it is mainly to help people. There is better ways to communicate with thy kind than via forum/message board. I like helping people as it brings me satisfaction. I like giving advice it makes me feel wanted which is a feeling that I don't often feel.

As someone who has been online since 1999 except in a few great cases I have to say yes.

So far I've had to quit three Asperger's Syndrome Forums. The one on which I was very active, Aspie Hangout, pretty much died after the member who contributed the most was banned so I stopped posting there. Everyone I hung out with there has gone over to Facebook. A second, I forget the name, but I was mercilessly attacked and driven off, largely by one member but with the aid and abetment of others. I can't remember either the name of the forum (but perhaps someone here will know) or the name of the member. I was going to check the member list here if there is one to make sure that person wasn't here, (as I can remember enough of the username to know if one like that appears or not), but it occurred to me they might be using a different name anyway if they were here.

Anyhow, talk about weird/clueless/boundaryless--after attacking me repeatedly, and I've seen people driven off boards for WAY LESS--but attack is my life; it's been near constant since at least school age, so I generally don't leave over one twerp attacking. Anyhow, finally this b***h (it was a she) came out with a "diagnosis," having "figured" I suffered from Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and others agreed! I fled in floods of tears. Just the other day I came across an EXTREMELY dead-on, in a nutshell summation on YouTube about the differences between Asperger's and NPD, which I will post here in a thread on the subject. The reason I was upset to the point of tears was not only because it was heartless, insulting, and totally wrong, but I knew if they were that freakin' far off they were absolutely clueless and would never be able to be of any help, and it was worse than a waste of my time to stay.

The third forum, I think either was not very active or it was all subjects on which I could not contribute as I had no experience and no opinion on them. Glad you decided to stay on this forum.

I love that the topic I'm Done Here. goes on and on and on...

Good luck to the OP, and come back sometime. I've done the same thing. I'm just back after years away, and remembering why I left. It wasn't the negativity, my skin is thick enough to be impenetrable by random trolls. It was more the time and effort I put into what I thought were germane, articulate and thoughtful replies to threads that were ignored. I killed a lot of threads and found it discouraging. I really ought to take the NT view and exult in having had the last word!

Yeah, unfortunately that seems to be the case.

To me its the other way around. Wrongplanet steals me from Facebook. I never use my Facebook account because I loiter here all of the time. I guess I am just out of step with everyone else.
