I'd prefer a visual migraine to the massive headache and throwing up that I usually get. Thankfully they don't happen often. Others here are right about taking pain medication or anti-inflammatories as soon as it starts. Lying in bed with the room made dark is a necessity.

Yes, generally without pain but they make me nauseated. My vision goes like shards of broken glass or a kaleidoscope, like in the examples given. It starts at one side of one eye and slowly moves across the whole eye until I can't even see my hand in front of my face. Sometimes it's both eyes. After my first stroke the Cardiologist said it can be a sign that the person has a heart defect or that they're at increased risk of stroke. In my case it was true and I had a heart defect, but I doubt that's true for everyone.

I get the migraines about twice a year. They used to be a lot more common.

I get normal / painful migraines more often than the visual ones.

I had a migraine today.
It was the painful, eye feels like it's going to pop out of the socket type, with accompanying nausea.
I also get the squiggly line type without pain.
And the type where I go numb down one side like I'm having a stroke.
Fun times.
