More importantly what needs to be asked is he presidential material ?
Though to be fair few presidents any where in the world have been so .
America alone have elected Bush 2 , Carter , Ford all of whom it was way over their heads .

There is no such thing as "A real aspie would". We're as different as anyone else and do things in all sorts of different ways.

He's too what?? I sure don't see it. If he didn't have power, he'd be a comic relief character.

No, I think he just enjoys being an as*hole to people. He knows how low it is to fire someone through tweet, he does it on purpose specifically because of that. Bea, I've seen your posts, you're fairly 'old school' with manners and etiquette, so don't look too hard at the current occupant of 1600 Penn. Ave., his lack of decorum will only frustrate you.

Considering the date this thread was initially posted, I'd hope this was an April Fools joke.

On a serious note, though, I have trouble believing Trump is autistic. I can think of many other words to describe him, but his behavior doesn't seem like anything that gives me reason to believe he's autistic.

I found a video about how Donald Trump is basically Dr. Eggman from the Sonic series. But the video explained that they're the same because they are both narcissistic. But warn you I guess. The video was made before he became president. And also I don't think he's autistic. I think he's a narcissistic douche.

Doesn't change my point.

An aspie who found himself in the oval office might be socially inept, but would likely not act on that ineptitude the way trump does. Most likely an aspie POTUS would act publicly the way his advisers advise him to. So the fact that Trump ignores, or even deliberately defies, the norms means that something other than, or in addition to, autism is going on. Either he is deliberately being provocative (so he could be NT or anything), or he has lack of impulse control (more of ADHD trait then an autistic trait) or something else. So that behavior is not evidence of autism in and of itself.

In response to the OP, Trump is an absolute classic example of narcissitic personality disorder. Although I'm not a qualified psychoanalyist, I've known several people with NPD and have done a fair amount of research into the disorder. You couldn't get a more classic case of NPD than Trump.

Now, it's certainly not impossible for NPD and ASD to co-exist, and various facets of the two conditions overlap, but I just don't get an ASD vibe from Trump at all. He may seem to lack social acuity at times, but in his case it's likely to be more a matter of not giving a crap than genuinely not understanding the difference between correct and incorrect behavior.

I think Trump could be Autistic. Even Autistic people can be dumb asses sometimes. I don't know enough about narcissism to make a judgement in that regard one way or the other but there is always the possibility.

I was a little taken aback when people thought that Baron might be Autistic and Melania had such a huge anger response to that. I don't know, my friend said that she would not have responded so intensely if there was not a possibility of truth to the question. But I don't know, I just felt hurt that she thought it would be so insulting if someone thought her kid might be an Aspie.

I personally agree with Ichinin. Trump is just way out there. Autistic! No! Just a power seeking prick.

Here is my take on it: he might or might not be autistic. However, if he is, he has Narcissistic Personality Disorder as a superimposed structure (originally maybe coping mechanism?) on his autistic traits. We will probably never know as now it is the NPD that is much more salient and seems to be dominating his personality.

Tony Attwood said in this video that Aspies sometimes develop NPD as a way to cope with their difference. ("I am different and I am also intelligent/successful = I am better").

For the autistic community it is better if we just settle for the more obvious NPD explanation.

Trump is not autistic, he is a narcissist, however.

I've heard that Assad was "painfully shy" and no one anyone would ever expect to lead a country.

As someone who is unfortunately used to wearing masks, I know that others do it too, and do it well. Is it wise always trying to look behind? No, I don't think so. After all, past a certain point an individual is whom he/she choses to be. What they were before their choices doesn't matter anymore. And no one is inherently immune to the effects of their choices, NT or ND or whatever.
