Yes, I like my birthday.

When I read the thread title, I thought it was going to be a discussion about whether or not you like having your birthday on the specific day each year it occurs. For example, my birthday is August 10th, and I love that it occurs on August 10, rather than some other specific day in some different month.

The first reason is due to weather. I've always lived in the United States, so on August 10th, it's the summertime, and there's never any snow or cold weather to deal with. I hate snow and cold weather -- and love warm weather and being able to spend lots of time outside -- so knowing that my birthday will always be warm, and will include a good chance to spend time outside that day, that gives me more reason to look forward to each birthday.

Second, when I was growing up, I hated school, but since there was never any school in July and August, my birthday never fell on a school day. This made it much easier for me and my family to have a full day where I could be pretty much anywhere I wanted at any time on my birthday. I sort of felt sorry for classmates who had their birthday on a school day, as they couldn't spend the entire day doing what they wanted.

Finally, I also like the fact that August 10 is an even-numbered day {10} in an even-numbered month {8}. I like even-ness for any particular days, months, and years, as well as ages. This makes me very glad to know that I'll always have an even day/month situation on my birthday.

I'm mixed on my birthday. I used to love it, and it is a day when people in my life let me know they appreciate me. At the same time, the older I get, the faster the years go, and I've been thinking about how much I've been progressing. I've been worrying about blinking, waking up, being in my 30s and 40s and not making as much progress as I'd like. Life is short.

On my last birthday, I was thinking about how much time flew, how it didn't feel like that long ago, and how much has changed. Somethings for the better and some things for the worse. I don't voice these worries to people in my life because I don't want to seem like a negative Nancy.

I don't particularly care for it anymore, though it does give me an excuse to hang out with my friends. My birthday is in late March so back when I was in school, it would sometimes occur during spring break which was nice.

I usually enjoy birthdays. Mine is in early July so the weather is usually ok in the UK by this time. I normally celebrate it by spending the day out somewhere and having a meal at a restaurant in the evening. This year, I went to the Stanley Kubrick exhibition currently on in London as I’m a huge fan of his work and I really enjoyed seeing all sorts of great stuff from his personal archives on display at the exhibition. This year was definitely one of the best birthdays that I’ve had and I hope to have many more of them!

My last couple of birthdays have been hard because I couldn't spend them near friends and family. I'm bad at saying "no" at work sometimes and so I get sucked into some kind of out-of-town business trip on my birthday every year since I moved here.

This year I'd like to put my foot down and actually get a chance to have a party on my birthday for a change.

When I was a kid adults seemed to have so many things I did not have so my birthday was a celebration of getting closer to adulthood.

As the adult years went by it was a sad reminder I am getting older and losing things I once had.

Since my autism diagnosis taught me I overcame more then I realized and since my cancer my birthday is a celebration of surviving another year. I am still around.

I have been out of caring about my birthday for about 15/20 years now. I also am not good at remembering/caring about others' birthdays, and think people make waaaaayyyyy too big a deal celebrating themselves. I get celebrating with children/giving a gift/making a cake/etc, but I also noticed kids usually act-out on their birthdays which illustrate (to me) that it is not healthy to make someone so much the center of attention.

I dislike birthdays so much that a few years ago I decided to see what the bible had to say about them, and guess what? The bible never mentions birthday celebrations save for 4 times, and 3 of those times tragedies occur. The only valid time is Jesus' birth, which is wonderful of course.

They did keep track of how old people were, but it isn't really clear how they did it, and when you consider that the bible states people were hundreds of years old in the Old Testament perhaps it was calculated in a way other than what we use. I have never been able to crack the code (yet) of biblical birthday years. And, no, while I believe every word in the bible in the original language is true, I do not believe men lived to be 500 years old. I think it's a code or a way of chronicling that we just haven't discerned yet.

Nonetheless, the only birthday celebration that God seems to bless in the bible is Jesus' birth.

I've always liked my birthday but I'm not sure if I'm going to like next year's birthday because that's when I'll be 30. I don't want to be 30. I want to be in my 20s forever. I really can't believe how quick this last decade has gone.

My bellybutton birthday is just another day. I have other days that are far more significant with regard to my life.

Do I like the date of my birthday? Yes. If I could have picked my own birthdate I would have picked exactly what it is.

Do I like having birthdays? They're bittersweet because my grandfather died on my birthday, but overall yes I do like them because I can recall specific memories from many years gone by, including the people I love most. My birthdays remind me of those people and the good times we shared.

Do I like getting older? Meh. It doesn't matter to me, and I don't worry about age.

I was born in the wrong century ... I suppose I should have mentioned that ... but the calendar date is otherwise good.

Why one year different, Blabbs?
