Certainly I have strengths and weaknesses, some of which are very likely down to ASD. But I don't know of anybody who doesn't.

I don't think I am exceptional in any way.

I do good at things that I enjoy doing. Horribly at most things involving a social aspect or math. There are things like reading analogy clocks that I struggle a lot with it doesn't make me feel very intelligent.

How does one really even gage one's abilities?

Twice-exceptional refers to being identified as both gifted as well having a learning disability, developmental issue, etc.

Ah, fair enough. I think a fair criteria might be if professionals have applied labels to that effect, since none of us are well equipped to judge that entirely on our own.

The one IQ test I ever took placed me at 80, so I don't think so. It was an online test, so very likely it wasn't a good one. Idk. (My stepdad told me that he didn't think it was accurate, that I was definitely smarter than an IQ of 80, etc.)

Well I was tested and placed in the gifted program in elementary school and then in middle school and high school, I took advanced classes, so I would say I am twice-exceptional.

I would not be surprised if my giftedness is why nearly all of the signs of me being autistic were overlooked because like I remember so often whenever I was struggling in some way (in some ways that are clearly now relating to autism and other times not relating to autism), I was basically told that I shouldn't have these problems because I was 'gifted' and therefore could just deal with them myself.

Like bruh yeah I was in the gifted program and all that jazz but I was also literally still a child??? Being gifted doesn't mean I didn't struggle and have difficulties.

I looked up an IQ test just now and took the one at IGtestprep

On the short version I scored 61% which it said was above average

Got overwhelmed on the full version and gave up on a lot of the questions. So I guessed almost entirely blindly on most of the answers and my score was "borderline impaired" lmao

It's like they expect a small child to be able to articulate that they're clearly different from their peers before they'll consider it, but when the kid does, they dismiss it because you're gifted.

It takes years of experience as a weirdo to be certain you're that far-off from others.

I'm in a fairly positive mood so I'll say yes. I have ASD + schizophrenia + probable dyspraxia. This is from averaging psychometrician created and/or normed tests. Would likely be higher doing a composite, but I lack the necessary info to do so.

I'm definitely twice-exceptional since my diagnosis, but before that I was just a gifted child who couldn't do basic things properly. My friend said I was the smartest stupid person she'd ever met. When I first told my mum I thought I might be autistic, she said I might just be one of those geniuses who's great at some things but not very good at others

I think I lucked out because I'm gifted at a lot of things tbf, I just think too much and get in my own way. When life was ruled by school and academic achievements were the marker you were measured against, I really had it all (although I was miserable and f****d up then too when I think about it). The only thing I wasn't good at in school was PE, time management and regulating my own emotions lol. I got better at athletics; the other two, not so much.

Definitely, when you are labelled as gifted, your other issues get overlooked and brushed to the side, particularly if you are a quiet and compliant student (and, anecdotally, a girl).

The jury is out on whether I'm a stupid smart person or a smart stupid person.

But no one will ever prove it. I have never done a 'gifted test' in my life, so no proof exists.

I have a recollection of going to an office type building with my mum and her husband and remember being put in a room full of toys with a big glass viewing window. While in the room a woman came in and we played with some toys , I can't really remember, I was probably about 4. F*ck knows what that was all about. I just realised that is my oldest memory, I don't think I remember anything before that

^ Maybe it was to see if you were gifted. Orrrr maybe it was to see if you were special in another way :jester:

I was in gifted and talented in primary school, but when we went into high school we got tested again. I scored so high that the special ed lady took me out of class to tell me, and it was one of the weirdest memory experiences of my life. I got called out of chemistry and then she told me it was about the test, and then ??????? something happened, and then I went back into class and my friend asked what it was about and I realised I had no idea. Like I couldn't remember it at all, like there was a block in my brain. I only have one other memory like that, and it was a traumatic one lol, so who the f**k knows what that was about. I was out of the room, and then I was back in the room, and I have no idea what transpired. I didn't learn I got a 100 until later.

BUT there is a conspiracy that the gifted and talented programme was used to brainwash or otherwise programme children, so maybe it was that lol. I'm a sleeper agent, wooooOOOooOoOOO.
