Yesterday I was driving a gravel road I know quite well, but it was after a rain. One low spot was slick with mud, and soft on one side. I was seriously sideways before I could react, but quickly regained control. Practice from long ago still works, like being able to ride a bicycle.
I had a girlfriend who had not practised skids, and who got distracted tuning her car radio. She saw she was headed for the edge of the road, and swerved back, also getting into her first skid. She overcorrected twice and went off a cliff. She was OK, but the car was totalled.
