I went through a surgery recently in order to get rid of a bilateral hernia. It still hurts, sometimes more than ever before the surgery. So I guess, yes, I have GI issues. Or used to have. I will know for sure when this stops hurting, if ever.

I hear lots of people on the spectrum experience one form or another of GI issues. Back in 2006, my heartburn was so bad that I had to have surgery for it. Earlier this year, I began to experience some sensitivity to gluten. Do you have digestion/GI issues too?

Yesterday, my husband showed me a video about Dr. Gundry’s supplements, which are supposed to help digestion and boost energy, etc. I think he also has a book with recipes that are supposed to help digestion as well. I haven’t done the research just yet but was wondering if you guys knew about this already.

This is not a myth! I have pretty severe GI issues, and so do auties I know in person.
I will take a look in my academic search engine, because there must be some study available to describe this.

GI issues in ASD population is common knowledge. Joint issues seem to be common also.

I think GI issues are mostly caused by stress and anxiety almost all of us experience chronically.
Foods rich in fiber and probiotic supplementation seem to help somewhat, but not consistently!

I have GI issues from stress, which I do relate directly to hypersensitivity from autism. My digestion can get so shot I can’t eat a banana without suffering from infection for weeks (TMI). I can’t digest foods like rice well, either, unless they’re well-cooked and in controlled portions. It is more of a reoccurring problem but I have dealt with it for years.
