I don't often tell people to "cheer up" any longer. I don't like being told to "cheer up' when I feel down.

I don't try to "dissuade" people in that way.

Depression is clinical, though. You can't dissuade a person from being depressed, just like you can't dissuade them from being autistic and / or having mental illness.

Depression isn't the same thing as being "sad" about a situation, or needing to see the bright side.

I know people mean well, but it's proven that the worst thing you can do for a depressed person is to tell them to cheer up, or point out that they shouldn't be depressed. I doubt anyone chooses to be depressed. There are no quick fixes.

(I'm not criticising anyone for trying, but it's the truth).

Cheer up things could be worse and sure enough I Cheered up and sure enough , things got worse ...... (joke).

That wasn't aimed at you, Kraftie, or at anyone here.
It was just my normal public-service-announcement for the day.

What would I be, if I wasn't predictable? 8O

You get the political stuff, sure.

But, most of the time, most of the people here are supportive. Even some of the "political" ones.

Not counting my wife, my only friend in the world I met here on WP. So it can (and does) happen.

Neurototypicals are strange

They are obsessed with ego

I just want to enjoy me self

but they are obessed with what others think of them

Cant get any fun around here

Once you understand that to respond to friend’s feelings doesn’t require much thought or action at all, it becomes much easier and even fulfilling at times. I used to think I need to offer advice, or help, or at least analysis of the situation :) But it turns out that just a few simple phrases and basic mirroring is already more than enough. Or if you are unsure how to mirror and what to say, just looking at the friend and letting them talk is already good. An occasional nod, or a “mhm”, fits any situation.

When this town isn't boring, it's scary.

I'm not sure if it's cause I have no friends. But when people faked being my friend.. I generally speaking it probably makes no difference if friend or not I can seem to give a response that is helpful. I just CBT myself as I've no one to talk to or enough of the right assistance.. scary s**t. Ok something like that. It's kinda not helpful. I can generally only understand something like sympathize etc unless they're not well known to me as I can separate myself from others feelings in most cases yet im the most emotional affected and connected person I know , with want for others acceptance, animals. Plants and stuff.

Be unpredictable like me. It's my fav mask.. ( if I pull it off as much as my self talk tells me that it is). 8)
