am think aspergers should be changed to HFA,but am also think there should be subtypes of it.
something like HFA-pervasive,and HFA-non pervasive.
HFA-P would be the group for those who have more severe traits-and are disabled by their HFA.
HFA-NP would be the group for those who are mildly affected by their HFA,are very high functioning, and not considered disabled or in need of support.
Am think there needs to be different subtypes as aspergers is a spectrum to.
people who are very high functioning, not considered disabled in any way,and are the least autistic like cannot speak for the most autistic like severe lowest possible functioning aspergans [eg,cannot say aspergers is not a disability or not autism like when it is for some],and they cannot speak for the highest functioning aspergans [eg,cannot say it is always a disability when it isn't for some],both have different needs.
for example, one aspergan am know is unable to speak unless he is spoken to,he is unable to say when he has even severe pain, unless someone asks him when has pain.
The problem with that is that part of the definition of an ASD is that it is pervasive (as in Pervasive Development Disorder- as I'm sure you know). So this would not only be a name change, but a change in the current conception of what an ASD is. Not saying that's bad, just pointing it out.
