That's much more common than you think, and there is a VERY simple explanation I think.

The people you should be suspicious of are often far more skilled and practiced at being convincing, they tailor their story to play to you. The people you can trust, however, are stuck with the truth and facts, and they only really have one version, not always the most persuasive or convincing one either.

I am definitely the same way. It takes me a long, long time to begin to fully trust someone. Truthfully, it takes me a long time to even fully trust someone, and even then its always tempered with a bit of skepticism. Moreover I tend to be paranoid that people don't like me, even some of my friends...

...Ah well, happiness is fleeting at best, no?

Yeah, I'm very much like that too and often find myself questioning people's motives when maybe I shouldn't worry so much.
